Introduction: Genmaicha - Roasted Rice Tea
This is a recepie to make roasted rice for japanese genmaicha tea.
Genmaicha is the Japanese name for green tea combined with roasted brown rice. It is sometimes called "popcorn tea". This type of tea was originally drunk by poor Japanese, as the rice served as a filler and reduced the price of the tea; which is why it is also known as the "people's tea." Today it is consumed by all segments of society.

Step 1: What You Need...
Step 2:
Wash the rice with cold water at least 3 times, the same way as if you wanted to cook the rice.
Step 3:
Put the clean rice into the saucepan and put the heat on medium. The rice will stick to one another but when it dries it will seperate.
Step 4:
Be sure to stir the rice once in a while so it doesnt get burned.
The bigger the saucepan the better because the rice can spread out and roast evenly

Now stir continuously. Slowly they start changing color....
Step 6:
When most of the grains get brown you know its time to stop roasting. Put the saucepan on a cold surface or put the roasted rice on a plate to cool down.
Step 7:
This is how the grains should look like. Now you can make tea or store them in an airtight container.
Step 8: Lets Make the Tea...
Personaly i like my tea 50/50 . I put one teaspoon of roasted rice and one teaspoon of japanese sencha tea.

You can also put a bit of japanese Matcha powder in it to make Matcha-iri genmaicha.
