Introduction: Ghostly Garland!
When All Hallows Eve rolls around, many MANY ideas zip through my mind on what wonderous decorating I can do this year!! Having a 7 year old also keeps me interested in projects that are simply fun for us to create together. I love working with yarn, and always seem to have spare kicking around from projects, so I figure, why not re-purpose!?
This Ghostly Garland only requires a few materials, most of which you will more then likely already have in your home, and has a wonderful spooky effect!
Let's get ghosting <3
Step 1: Gathering Your Materials
What you will require:
- White yarn, as much or as little as you'd like (* I used one ball of yarn )
- Piece of cardboard, cut to 4 inches in width
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Fishing line ( or hanging string of your choice)
- Black marker ( for marking the face. You can opt for googly eyes as well )
- Tape, or tacks for hanging.
Step 2: Creating the Form
Wrap your yarn loosely around your cardboard about 100 times. You can wrap it less if you would like your ghost to have a less full shape.
Once you have wrapped you desired amount of times, cut off the string at the bottom.
Step 3: Giving Ghostie a Head
Cut a length of yarn.
Slide your wrapped yarn off the cardboard
Use your length of yarn, and tie a knot tightly toward the top to form the shape of your ghost head.
Step 4: Marking the Face
Using your black marker, draw 2 eyes on your ghost head.
*You could use googly eyes in this step. Take a bit of school glue, and glue each eye to the head. Press and hold firmly for 20 seconds.
Step 5: Creating the Body
Take your scissors, and run them through the bottom loops. Cut straight across.
*be sure to take a closer look for any loops that skipped the scissors.
Now you have created your ghosts body!
Step 6: Repeat, Repeat, Reapeat
Repeat steps 1-4, depending on how long you'd like your garland to be.
I repeated the steps to create 5 more ghosts :)
Step 7: String It Along..
Using your yarn needle and fishing line ( or string of choice ) thread enough line through your needle to string along all your ghosts.
Pull the needle through the ghost head, until it comes out the other side.
Step 8: Keep Steady, Freddy!
Continue threading your ghosts until they are all on the line
* You can make a knot at the top of each ghost as you go, if you'd prefer a more permanent placement :)
Step 9: Ghostly Encounters Await..
Using tape, or tacks, or any other means of securing, find a spot to display your handmade garland and Viola!
You are on spooky ghost cloud #9!!
Make as many , or as little as you like
Bonus tip! If you want to make individual ghosts for singular placing, thrad the line through the ghost head, and tie a knot at the top to create a loop for hanging.
