As a child I was fascinated by weird and beautiful things, especially what I saw on TV, most of the time those things were very iconic of that era, but as a rule we didn't have it at home. One of the most relaxing and hypnotic things for me was a lava lamp. Therefore, this time in my workshop I decided to go back in time and create an even stranger interpretation of it.

Supplies

  • Golf balls (different brands for different colors)
  • Wooden golf tees
  • Superglue
  • 600ml of Epoxy
  • Plexiglass (3mm and 1mm thickness)
  • Hot glue
  • Chunk of American walnut
  • Can of gloss varnish
  • Wood oil
  • USB led lamp from IKEA

Step 1: Glue Golf Balls to Tees

I cut the tees completely randomly and glued them to the golf balls. Tees that are shorter will go closer to the outside of the mold.

Step 2: Mold Preperation

I make a cylindrical mold from plexiglass and hot glue, put the prepared golf balls into it.

Step 3: Mix Epoxy

Now we mix epoxy resin, we will need 600ml of it (400ml resin and 200ml hardener).

In order to remove as many air bubbles as possible, I put the mixed epoxy in a vacuum container.

Step 4: Pour It Like It's Hot!

Bury the golf balls in clear resin and leave for 72 hours for a good solidification.

Step 5: Lathe Time

I glue the workpiece to the scrap of wood and start turning.

As you can see the fluorescent colors of the golf balls make working under the UV lamp look magical!

Step 6: Wooden Base

Grab the American walnut blank and make the base of the lamp. It will be hourglass shaped and have a hole cut in the middle for the USB cable of the lamp.

Step 7: Wooden Top

Make the upper part of the lamp using the same principle.

Step 8: Varnish and Oil

Now I spray the glossy varnish on the finished shape of the golf balls.

Apply Osmo wax to the wooden parts.

Step 9: USB Lamp Install

Through the drilled hole in the wooden part, I put power cord of the USB lamp.

Glue the lamp to the body with a few drops of superglue.

Step 10: Glue All Parts Together

I apply epoxy glue between the individual parts and assemble everything into one thing.

Step 11: Finito!
