Introduction: Groovy Lava Lamp
Go totally retro and back to the 70s with this totally groovy lava lamp!
Here is how to turn a water bottle into a groovy lava lamp!!
Step 1: Ingredients/Materials
This simple project, as going with the "theme" requires very simple materials.
You will need:
- An empty water bottle/bottle (must be clear)
- Canola Oil
- Food Coloring
- Alka-Seltzer
Step 2: (Only Do If Needed) Peel Off the Label on Bottle
Peel off the label on your water bottle/bottle. If there is any remaining sticky stuff left on the bottle, wash it off with soap and warm water. If your sticky stuff is really persistent and wants to make a statement, use Goo-Gone!(It works like magic, people!)
Step 3: Add Oil
Fill bottle 1/2 full with Canola Oil. Simple enough! (Follows the theme!)
Step 4: Add Water
Add water to almost the top. Make sure to leave at least 2 inches at the top.
Step 5: Add Food Coloring
Add food coloring to the water/oil once the water reaches the bottom. The food coloring will go in clumps, and once it reaches the bottom, (the water) it will work like normal food coloring. This is especially fun if you have kids, as they can watch it sink down to the water. Mix it up carefully when it all reaches the bottom.
Step 6: Alka-Seltzer
Break up your Alka-Seltzer into fourths, and add in 1/4 at a time. Make sure your cap is OFF of the water bottle!
Step 7: Voila!
Watch your GROOVY LAVA LAMP do its thing! Add more Alka-Seltzer once the reaction dies down!
This fun activity is great for Summer parties and cookouts! Your guests will be amazed!!
