- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Decorating the cookies
- Royal Icing, I bought some from my local grocery store
Step 1: Cookie Cutters
For the cookie cutters, I'm pretty sure you can find them at any store. I decided to try to make my own as I already had two I previously bought from the store. This is completely optional but since I had the resources because of my engineering class I 3D printed some out. I won't list the process here due to how tedious it can be and I solely want to focus on the cookies.
If you guys want a separate tutorial for those, let me know in the comments ๐
Step 2: Making the Dough
To make the dough for the cookies you need two bowls, one medium, one large.
- Add the flour, baking powder, and salt to a medium bowl and whisk together. Set the bowl aside
- Grab the large bowl and add the softened butter and granulated sugar, using a handheld mixer, mix until it's creamy
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter and granulated sugar mixture
- Now that the wet ingredients are combined in the large bowl, slowly add the dry ingredients from the medium bowl to the large bowl and mix until combined
Now that you have the dough, set it in the refrigerator
- To do this right, evenly section the dough into two pieces
- Get two pieces of parchment paper
- On one piece of parchment paper, lightly dust parchment paper and rolling pin with flour then roll out the dough to be about 1/4-inch thick
- Repeat this process with the other piece of dough and place it on top of the other dough, making sure there is parchment paper in between
- Cover with aluminum foil or plastic wrap and set in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours and up to 2 days, personally, I keep it in the refrigerator for about 2 hours
Step 3: Baking
Once they are chilled, take the rolled-out dough out of the refrigerator, preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (177ยฐC), and line the baking pan with parchment paper. Then start cutting the shapes into the cookies and place them on the baking pan. Re-roll any remaining dough and keep doing that until there is none left. Once they are all placed and the oven is preheated, bake the cookies for 11-12 minutes.
Step 4: Decorating
Allow the cookies to cool down then you can begin to decorate. For this step, be as creative as you want. As you can see while decorating the cookies I didn't have an idea in mind, just decorating as I went. I think they turned out beautiful and when I took a bite, they were even better.
Hopefully, you guys get a chance to try them out yourselves. Thank you and Happy Halloweeeeeeen!!!๐๐๐๐
