Introduction: Holographic Home Display
This project guides the user through constructing a 3D holographic video chamber and enclosure. It employs Pepper's ghost effect and specialized holographic videos found on YouTube.
Supplies
MaterialList
Cardboard — 20ft² (recycled)
Acrylic — 12in x 12in sheet
Small Monitor — 7 in display
Speakers — small
Paint — Spray Can
Tape — Roll of Packing Tape
Step 1: Enclosure Construction Step 1
Using recycled cardboard create two 8” x 8” squares for the base and top of the enclosure.
Step 2: Enclosure Construction Step 2
Using recycled cardboard create four 8” x 10” rectangles for the walls of the enclosures.
Step 3: Enclosure Construction Step 3
On three of the 8”x10“ rectangles cut a 7” x 3” rectangle with the base 4” from the bottom of the rectangle.
Step 4: Enclosure Construction Step 4
On one of the three rectangles from step 3 cut a 3” diameter circle centered 1.71” from the bottom of the rectangle.
Step 5: Enclosure Construction Step 5
Cut a 1.5” x 0.125” rectangle 1” from either side and 3” from the bottom on the uncut panel from step two and the cut panel from step 4.
Step 6: Enclosure Construction Step 6
On all 8” x10” panels cut a 1.5” x 0.125” rectangle 2.62” from the top edge and 3.25” from the left edge.
Step 7: Enclosure Construction Step 7
Using recycled cardboard create two 9” x 2.5” rectangles and a 9” x 9” square for interior supports
Step 8: Enclosure Construction Step 8
Cut a 0.5” x 0.5” square out of each corner of the 9” x 2.5” rectangles
Step 9: Enclosure Construction Step 9
Cut a 3” x 0.48” rectangle out of each outside corner of the 9” x 9” square
Step 10: Enclosure Construction Step 10
Cut a 5.45” x 5.45” square out the center of the 9” x 9” square
Step 11: Enclosure Construction Step 11
Assemble the 4 8”x10” rectangles around the 8” x 8” base square taping the horizontal edges
Step 12: Enclosure Construction Step 12
Slot in internal support structure pieces
Step 13: Enclosure Construction Step 13
Tape the vertical edges and move on to creating the 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber
Step 14: 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber Construction Step 1
On a piece of 12”x12” acrylic mark out a 12” x 3” rectangle
Step 15: 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber Construction Step 2
Using a box cutting or other razor blade-based knife cut along this line approximately 10 times
Step 16: 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber Construction Step 3
Place the edge of the scored line against a sharp edge and while holding one side on a counter or table break the other side over
Step 17: 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber Construction Step 4
Using the other square edge of the 12” x 12 “sheet repeat steps 2 and 3
Step 18: 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber Construction Step 5
Mark a 5.45” line from one corner of the square edge of the broken piece.
Step 19: 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber Construction Step 6
Mark a 1.5” line on the other edge 1” from the corner used in step 5
Step 20: 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber Construction Step 7
Connect these lines together using a straight edge and repeat steps 2 and 3 to create angle breaks.
Step 21: 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber Construction Step 8
Repeat steps 5-7 three more times to create all the chamber components.
Step 22: 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber Construction Step 9
Connect four finished pieces together to form the 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber
Step 23: Final Assembly and Use Step 1 (Optional)
Paint the enclosure with black spray paint to increase contrast and user experience
Step 24: Final Assembly and Use Step 2
Place the Speaker Inside the designated space and cut holes in the back or side to route the 3.5mm audio cable
Step 25: Final Assembly and Use Step 3
Cut holes in the back or side to route HDMI and USB wiring for LCD and mount using cardboard standoffs in the enclosure
Step 26: Final Assembly and Use Step 4
Place the screen into mounts created in Step 2 and route the wiring
Step 27: Final Assembly and Use Step 5
Place 3D Projection/Holographic Chamber into top retention structure on top of the screen
Step 28: Final Assembly and Use Step 6
Place the top on the enclosure and secure with tape
