Introduction: Homemade Jam Drops
These homemade jam drops are quick and easy to make as a snack for yourself or your children as an after school snack.
Ingredients:
- 65 g butter
- 190 g flour
- 50 g sugar
- half a tsp baking powder
- 1 egg
- jam
- vanilla essence (optional)
NOTE: The cookie is relatively low in sugar, so if you like your cookies a bit more sugary, consider adding a bit more sugar.
Utensils etc:
- mixing bowl
- sieve
- teaspoon
- fork/whisk
- Baking tray
- baking paper
Step 1:
Preheat your oven to 180°c or 355°f.
Cream together the butter and sugar by using a fork or a whisk as shown in the photos. When it reaches a creamy consistency, add the egg and vanilla essence, and beat till combined well.
Step 2:
Sieve the flour and baking soda into the mixture. Then, mix the mixture with a fork or your hands until it turns into dough.
Step 3:
Get about 2 teaspoon's worth of dough and roll into a ball. Place on your baking tray, each about 5 cm apart. Use your thumb to make an indentation in the dough, as shown in the photos above.
Step 4:
Spoon some jam into the indentation in the dough. Make sure you don't put in too much jam, so when it boils, it doesn't explode all over the cookie.
If the dough is very oily and soft, put the dough into the fridge for half an hour to cool it down before baking.
Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
Step 5:
Take the cookies out to cool down after they have finished baking, then eat it! Remember to wear oven mitts :)
Happy baking!
