Introduction: How to Hold Four Mallets Using Stevens Grip
These are the simple steps of how to hold four mallets before being able to play with four mallets. You can use this if you want to play marimba, xylophone, or vibraphone music that involve four notes at one time.
Step 1: Wrapping the Ring and Pinkie Finger
Grab one of the two mallets and wrap your ring finger and pinkie finger completely around the near bottom of the mallet.
Step 2: Placing the Other Mallet
Pick up the other mallet and place the very bottom tip of the mallet in the middle of the palm of the hand holding the mallet.
Step 3: Wrapping the Middle Finger
Wrap the middle finger around the mallet sticking out of the palm of the hand.
Step 4: Placing the Thumb
Stick the thumb straight up the same mallet.
Step 5: Placing the Index Finger
Place the index finger on the back of the same mallet, and then point the index finger like a gun.
Step 6: Gripping the Left Hand
Repeat the exact same steps, just using the left hand now.
