Introduction: How to Make a Sock Monkey
My kids love these. I just made one for our 1 year old and I put little bells inside so it jingles. Not to mention they look ridiculous which makes them all the more fun =)
Step 1:
-1 pair of knee length socks (or socks of your choice) I bought these cute pair at Target for $2
-Doll stuffing (you can purchase at Walmart)
-Needle and thread (thread matching the color of your socks)
-Scissors
-Tiny Round bells (You can purchase these at Walmart or you're local craft store)
-Buttons (for eyes) I used glitter glue because this was for a 1 year old and I didn't want to -take the chance of her chewing the eyes off ;)
Step 2:
This is actually pretty easy and I will try to be as descriptive as I can. If you have ANY questions please feel free to ask. I will even post the cut out I used because it's hard to see my chalk outlines.
Start by turning your socks inside out. Turn your socks inside out EXACTLY as I have shown in the picture. You need the heel to be centered in the middle on ONE sock because this is going to be his body with the heel being his bum ;)
Step 3:
Start with sock 1 in previous picture. Next you are going to draw TWO lines up the center leaving a tiny bit of space between the two lines-draw from the bottom and stop about 1/4 inch before the colored heel part. You are going to sew on each line you drew making sure to stop just before you get to the heel.
Then after sewing on the lines. Cut up the center (stopping right before you come to the heel) and now you have your legs! Sew the feet shut. I suggest not cutting the legs and then sewing them. You will notice if you do this the sock will curl where you have cut making it difficult to sew.
Step 4:
After you have cut your legs and you will notice there is a opening in his what--cha-ma-ha ;) this is where you will turn him right side out. Be gentle and you might want to use a pen to help you turn the legs right side out.
Now stuff him. Give his body some shape I put junk in his trunk ;) Then hand sew the opening shut. (if you want to add some jingle bells, add them now BEFORE you sew the opening shut. I added 2 bells to the body)

Step 5:
Now you are done with the body so that sock aside. Take sock 2 (inside out) and draw ears, tail, arms and mouth as I have shown in picture. I also posted a print out so you can see better what is what.
Cut them out.
Step 6:
Keep the ears, tail, mouth and arms INSIDE OUT. Now hand sew around the edges of the ears, tail and arms (NOT the mouth). MAKE SURE TO LEAVE AN OPENING!!!! Leave an opening big enough that you can turn each of them right side out.
After you have sewn around the edges, turn right side out through the opening you left and stuff. Hand Sew openings closed. (I use a pen to help turn the arms and tail right side out)
Next hand sew the tail to the bum where you like. Hand sew the arms and ears on as well. Positioning them where you would like. You can use my finished monkey as a guide to see where to position these parts ;)
The Mouth- There isn't really an easy way I have found to sew the mouth on so just do your best. I turn the moth right side out, use the same color thread as the mouth and I sew the mouth on going around the edge BUT leave a tiny opening so you can stuff it packed. After you stuff it hand sew the opening closed. Because I use the same color thread as the mouth the stitch isn't noticeable =) (I also added 2 bells to the mouth =)
You're all done! You can take some colored thread and sew the lips as I have shown. I just used pink thread because Pink was in the sock =)
PLEASE, if you have questions feel free to ask =) I tried to do my best at explaining =)

Step 7:
I hot glued a pink bow on and I used green glitter glue for the eyes since this is for a 1 year old. Normally these are made with buttons sewn on as eyes. Now place in stocking as a stocking stuffer! =)
