Introduction: How to Make Dairy Free Red Velvet Cake Pops

Cake pops are a fun and easy dessert to bring to any event. This dessert creates a party in anyones palate but usually contains dairy which can be upsetting for people who are lactose intolerant causing them to miss out on the fun. This recipe is dairy free and therefore ideal for everyone. The taste is just as good as the original cake pops, if not better, and they can be devoured by all people of all ages. Not to mention, they are not time consuming to make and can be created with beginner knowledge of baking.

Supplies

You will need:

  • 1 box red velvet cake mix (Store bought is fine)
  • 1 cup dairy free milk (I use almond milk)
  • 1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 12 oz white chocolate (Amount can vary based on the chocolate you use- I used about 12 oz, but it's always easier if you melt more rather than less- I use white chocolate morsels from Nestle)
  • 2-3 tablespoon vanilla frosting (Store bought works great. Check the label to make sure that it's dairy free, but most store bought frosting is)
  • Sprinkles

Supplies:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Something to stir with
  • Cake pan

Step 1: Combine Cake Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine cake mix, dairy free milk, and apple sauce. Stir until mixed together.

Step 2: Grease Pan and Bake Cake

Grease whatever pan you have, pour the batter in, and bake for the amount of time specified on the box for your pan size.

Step 3: Let Cake Cool

After the cake is cooked, take the cake out of the oven and let cool for 30 minutes.

Step 4: Crumble the Cake

After the cake has finished cooling, use your fingers to crumble to cake into small pieces.

Step 5: Add Frosting to Crumbles

Once the cake has been crumbled, add 2-3 tablespoons of vanilla frosting to the mix and combine well. To make sure you added enough frosting, try to form a ball of the cake crumbles. If it sticks together, you have added enough frosting. If it crumbles or falls apart, add 1 tablespoon more of frosting until you are able to form a ball that sticks and stays.

Step 6: Form Cake Balls

Form 1 inch balls of cake until you run out of cake and frosting mixture.

Step 7: Freeze Cake Balls

After making the cake balls, place the tray into the freezer so that they can harden.

Step 8: Melt Chocolate

Melt your chocolate morsels according to the package either in the microwave or stove top.

Step 9: Dip the Cake Balls

Remove the cake balls from the freezer and dip them into the melted chocolate. You should drop the cake ball into the chocolate one at a time and roll them around in the melted chocolate until covered. Remove with a fork and place onto a pan lined with parchment paper or nonstick spray. Repeat until all cake balls are covered in chocolate.

Step 10: Decorate Cake Pops!

Now for the fun step! Drizzle any leftover chocolate onto the cake pops using a form or spoon and spread some sprinkles over them to add a pop of color.

Step 11: Refrigerate to Harden

Refrigerate cake pops until chocolate has hardened (about 30 mins) and ENJOY!
