Introduction: How to Make Gingerbread Man Cookies
I show how to make gingerbread man cookies from scratch. The ingredients are fairly common place and you will probably have most of them already. The gingerbread dough is pretty easy to make and can be used to make gingerbread cookies of any shape you desire. It can even be used to make a gingerbread house. They can be decorated any way you like and are great for the holiday season.
A gingerbread man is a biscuit or cookie made of gingerbread, usually in the shape of a stylized human, although other shapes, especially seasonal themes and characters, are quite common. Most gingerbread men share the same roughly humanoid shape, with stubby feet and no fingers. Many gingerbread men have a face, though whether the features are indentations within the face itself or other candies stuck on with icing or chocolate varies from recipe to recipe. Other decorations are common; hair, shirt cuffs, and shoes are sometimes applied, but by far the most popular decoration is shirt buttons, which are traditionally represented by gum drops, icing, or raisins. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gingerbread_man
Step 1: Ingredients
- ½ Teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ Teaspoon salt
- ½ Tablespoon ginger
- ½ Tablespoon cinnamon
- ¾ Teaspoon cloves
- ½ Tablespoon nutmeg
- ½ Cups butter
- ½ Cups brown sugar
- ¾ Cup molasses
- 1 Egg
- 2 ¾ Cups flour
Step 2: Instructions
Mix the dry ingredients together then set them aside. Using a stand mixer, mix the butter and brown sugar together. Add the egg and molasses then mix again. Add the dry ingredient mixture and continue to mix until you get a dough like consistency. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and leave it in the fridge for an hour. When ready, preheat the oven to 350°F/176°C and roll the dough to about ¼ inch thickness. Use a gingerbread man or other shape cookie cutter to make the cookies. Place then on a non-stick baking sheet and let then cook for about 15 minutes. Once done cooking let them cool for a few minutes and add icing if desired.
