Supplies

  • 1/4 Cup Beeswax
  • Glass Measuring Cup
  • 1 Cup Coconut Oil (or Olive/Avocado Oil)
  • Cheesecloth
  • 6 Springs of Fresh Rosemary
  • 2 Glass Mason Jars
  • 2 4oz Amber Glass Jars with Lids
  • Small Sauce Pan
  • (Optional: Essential Oils for Fragrance)
  • (Optional: Hair Tie)
  • (Optional: Gloves)

Step 1: Prepping the Rosemary

  • Wash the fresh or store-bought Rosemary and set aside to dry.

Step 2: Adding in the Oil

  • Pull rosemary leaves from the stem into the glass measuring cup.
  • Add one cup of the oil of your choosing to the rosemary and set aside.

Step 3: Infusing the Rosemary

  • Add approximately 1-1.5 inches of water to the saucepan.
  • Place the pan onto the stove with the glass measuring up inside (this simulates a double boiler).
  • Turn the burner onto medium-low heat and let simmer for 2-3 hours (Caution: Add more water to the saucepan as needed to keep the rosemary oil from burning).

Step 4: Straining the Rosemary-infused Oil

  • Place the cheesecloth over one of the glass jars (Optional: Secure the cheesecloth with a hair tie).
  • Pour the rosemary-infused oil into the jar with the cheesecloth for straining (Caution: The measuring cup will be hot so use a towel or oven mitts to handle).
  • Squeeze the remaining oil into the jar and discard the rosemary leaves (Optional: Use gloves if you do not wish for your hands to be oily).

Step 5: Creating the Salve

  • Wipe out the measuring cup to get rid of any leftover leaves.
  • Add 1/4 cup of beeswax pellets into the measuring cup.
  • Add the rosemary-infused oil back into the measuring cup.

Step 6: Melting the Beeswax

  • Place the glass measuring cup back into the pan with water.
  • Stir the combination of beeswax and oil to help the wax dissolve (Optional: Once dissolved, add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to the mixture and stir).

Step 7: Creating the Finished Product

  • Pour the salve into the amber jars and set aside to cool, this can take from one to two hours to solidify (Caution: Remember the glass measuring cup will be hot so use proper care when handling it).
  • Add the lids to jars and you just made your own rosemary salve.
