Introduction: How to Put Together a Computer
Putting together a computer can be fun and easy!
all you need is:
- Anti-static mat
- Anti-static wrist strap
- Motherboard
- Heat sink
- Power Supply
- Graphics card
- Case
- Hard drive
- RAM
Step 1: Safety First
Place down anti-static pad and put on your anti-static wrist strap
Step 2: Open Your Supplies
Open all boxes and check to make sure you have everything you need:
- Motherboard
- Heat sink
- Power Supply
- Graphics card
- Case
- Hard drive
- RAM
Step 3: Putting in the Processor
- Lift up handle on the left side of the processor slot
- Put in the processor by lining up the triangles
- Put down the handle
Step 4: Put in the Heat Sink
- Put thermal paste on on bottom of the heat sink if needed
- Place the heat sink on top of the processor
- Lock down the handle and make sure it is secure
- Plug in the 4-pin connector into the motherboard
Step 5: Put in the RAM
- Take your RAM and push it in the DIMM slot until you hear a click
Step 6: Put in Graphics Card
- Push in your graphics card into the PCI slot
Step 7: Plug in the Power Supply
- Take the powersupply
- Plug the 4 and 6 pin connector into the motherboard
Step 8: Testing Your Components
- Plug in your power supply
- Plug in your VGA cable to your graphics card
- Turn on your monitor and turn on your power supply
- Touch the two pins nest to where it says pw in really small letters to turn the power on (if it doesn't work: Go back and troubleshoot what components are not working)
- Your monitor should come up with a boot menu
Step 9: Time to Put Your Components in a Case
Now that we know your components are all working, it is time to put them all into the case.
- Turn off your monitor as well as unplug your power supply from the motherboard
- Unscrew one side of the case
- Place motherboard in and screw it down
- Place your power supply in the corner and screw it down as well
- Plug the 4 and 6 pin connectors back into the motherboard
- Plug in the cables that go with your USB drives and power button
- Plug in your speaker that allows you to hear a beep when something is wrong with your computer
- Take your hard drive and undo a big red twisty button
- Put your hard drive in
- Screw it in
- Place the case cover back on
- Flip your case over
- Unscrew that side of the case
- Finish screwing in your hard drive
