How to Spray Paint a Nerf Gun

Spray painting a nerf gun can be hard. But the end result is worth it. These steps will help you spray paint a nerf gun successfully so that looks good.

Step 1: Disassemble Your Weapon

First, take out all of the screws holding the body in place. This may be from 3 to 24. Be careful when doing this, as sometimes the springs and mechanical plastic parts may be tightly sprung.

Step 2: Separate Which Parts You Want to Be Colored Differently.

Now that you've separated the Nerf Gun, you have a lot of covers to deal with. You'll want to separate which colors you want to be on your gun. For example, if you want a Yellow gun with black stripes, then if it was originally all black, you'll keep the stripes to paint separately.

Step 3: Paint the Specified Portions With Spray Paint

This is basically pretty easy, but make sure to spray evenly in "stripes" so that the paint coat is even. Make sure to use either an Enamel or a regular Paint.

Step 4: Wait for the Painted Portions to Dry.

Self Explanatory. Usually this is about 1-2 Hours.

Step 5: Spray a Thin Layer of Clear Coat

Similar to painting the first time, spray in "stripes'. But this time, spray extremely lightly so that the gun still performs at it's best.

Step 6: Let All of the Layers Dry to the Touch.

This time, wait 2-4 hours so that both coats can dry TOGETHER.

Step 7: Reassemble Your Weapon

Place the parts carefully back together. Screw the panels back on, and step back. You've spray painted a nerf gun!
