Introduction: How to Make a Dogvent Calendar
With Christmas just around the corner, it's time to whip up an extra special advent calendar for the special pooch (or pet) in your life. After all, it is the season for giving ;)
Step 1: The Ingredients
Gather your things! You will require
- Your favourite photo of your pet
- Polystyrene tube holder with 25 holes (I borrowed mine from the lab)
- Your pooch's favourite dog treats
- Template for your doors
- Aluminium foil
- Glue
- Cellotape
- Metal cutting ruler
- Cutting mat
- Stanley knife
- Scalpel
- Corrugated cardboard
- Thin cardboard (e.g. cereal box)
- Pen
- Bluetac
- Wrapping paper
Step 2: Make It Foil Fresh!
Time to fill each day with treats, and an extra special one for Christmas Day. Using glue, seal each hole with foil so they stay foil fresh right till Christmas day!
Step 3: Give It a Case
Using the corrugated cardboard, make a case for your advent calendar, allowing a few extra millimeters for the folds. Stick it onto the back of the calendar and fold the sides up using cellotape to hold the sides together to ensure a snug fit.
Step 4: Making the Doors
Using the thin cardboard, make a top cover with side tabs and stick your favourite photo on. Put the top cover over a spare side of corrugated cardboard to help with the perforations.
Place the door template on and affix with blue tac in the corners. Using the scalpel, perforate the doors, leaving a hinge unperforated.
Step 5: Fix the Front Cover On
Attach the front cover using glue and secure with cellotape to your advent calendar and add numbers to your doors.
Step 6: Wrapping the Calendar
Now wrap the back of your advent calendar like a present as the finishing touch.
Wait for the 1st December to open the first door :)
