Jason Voorhees's Belt

The most detailed instructions for the manufacture of three-layer belt: outer leather, inner leather lining, and a sling for durability and wear resistance.
This belt was made as a gift to a friend who is a fan of Jason Voorhees:)

Step 1: Prepare the Buckle

Choose a suitable buckle, not paying attention to the picture :)
In our case, Michael Jackson.

Using an awl or any other sharp tool, peel off the picture. Bye Michael!

Step 2: Make a Template Insert for Buckles

With the help of masking tape we glue the buckle, we will rub the contour with a handle and carefully cut out the inside.

Step 3: Make a Blank Insert of Leather

We paste the turned out template from an adhesive tape from a reverse side on a piece of skin of vegetable tanning.

Well pushed with a bone stylus, outlined with a pen and carefully cut out with a sharp knife.

Step 4: Mark Seam Line

With the help of a groover, we mark the edges of the edge and the seam line.

Step 5: Wet and Wait Until Soaked

Then we wet the surface well, so that the embossing pattern would easily lie down and hold tight to the skin. We are waiting until soaked.

Step 6: Move the Picture

Choose a picture and print it at the desired scale to the size of the buckle. We combine the edges of the leather buckle and the paper contour, glue the back side of the workpiece with adhesive tape so that nothing moves.

Then we gently use a non-sharp (!) Awl to trace the main outlines of the pattern on paper so that it is slightly pressed on the skin.

Step 7: Create Volume

By means of a rotary knife and and stamps we create volume.
The photos show the sequence: first, we cut (not through) the outline of the image, then drop one of the sides of the cut, then add details, and finally, carefully and evenly fill in the remaining background.

Step 8: To Color

After the embossing is well dried, you can paint.

Ordinary acrylic paints and thin brushes neatly paint the image, adjusting with a needle and thin sticks.

Step 9: Polish the Edges

Use the slicker to polish the edges. If you do not have a special tool, you can process the edges with a medium-hard nail file and then polish it with the soft side.

Step 10: Cut Belt Strip

We measure the base of the buckle, choose the skin of a suitable size.
We are using a special knife for belts, cut out the base, but in its absence, you can cut the belt with a very sharp knife.

Carefully trim the tip of the belt to the desired shape.

Step 11: Mark Seam Line and Trim Edge

With the help of a groover, mark the line, trim the edge with a beveler and remove the chamfer for a more neat shape.

Step 12: To Thin Skin

Thin skin with a special plane for the skin.

Since the belt is multi-layered, for convenience, the thickness of the upper skin should be reduced.

Step 13: Glue the Sling

To strengthen the belt and give the internal volume, glue in the sling inside, leaving approximately at the edges.

The place where the belt will be bent is already glued in the bent state.

Step 14: Glue Pad

Leather belt with a sling sticking to the lining.

The lining remains untreated, it allows the skin to breathe, absorb sweat and not paint clothes.

Step 15: Trim Excess Pad on All Parts

Carefully trim the excess lining on all parts: on the basis of the belt and loops.

Step 16: Protect the Masking Tape Lining (optional)

We glue masking tape on the lining for a while in order to protect it from paint, wax and anything else.

Step 17: Refresh Color

We update the color by painting, for example, paint for shoes, after which we remove the masking tape, we will not need it anymore.

Step 18: Trim Edges

Nail file gently grind the edges of the belt.

Step 19: Punch Holes for Seams

With the help of horizontal punches and hammer punch holes in the belt and loops.

Step 20: Thinner Inner Edge

Thin with a knife the inner edge of the belt and loops.

Step 21: Color the Edges

To color the edges of the loops and at the beginning of the belt, since after stitching the belt it will be difficult to process them

Step 22: Prepare Holes for the Seam on the Buckle

Punch holes in the leather insert.

Using a screwdriver or drill, drill the same holes in the metal base for the buckle.

Step 23: Varnish the Insert

Treat the leather insert with yacht varnish to increase durability.

Step 24: Flash Loop

Sew a needle, loop and fasten the nodules with a lighter.

Step 25: Stitch Belt

Thread the belt edge into the buckle and glue it to the base, thus securing the buckle.

Stitch the belt along the entire length, fasten the knots for strength with a lighter or a soldering iron.

Step 26: Sew in the Buckle

Sew a leather insert inside the metal base.

Step 27: Process the Edges of the Belt

Sand the edges of the belt and paint them completely.

Step 28: Mark and Punch Holes in the Belt

Mark the holes with the awl and punch to punch holes in the belt. If necessary, make a slot with a sharp knife.

Step 29: Wax Polish

Polish the finished belt with wax.
