Introduction: LED Sync to Music + LCD Display
The LED sync to music audio amplifier system is a fun project to build in your spare time. Join me as we build this system following the steps below.
Supplies
You can get all components at your local store in your region or you can buy online: Zaye Electronics

13. 20Mhz crystal oscillator
14. Vero board
15. Switch
16. 2-Pin terminal block x1
17. PIC16F877A Microcontroller IC + Socket
18. PICKIT 3 or any other available PIC programmer.
19. MPLAB X software
20. Heat sink x3 (optional)
21. Bolts + Nuts x6
22. Hot glue + gun
23. Soldering iron + lead
24. Multimeter
25. Jumpers
26. Header pins
Step 1: Gather All Necessary Materials and Components
Step 2: Draw the Circuit Diagram
Step 3: Assembling the Power Supply Unit:
1. From the circuit diagram.
2. Prepare the vero board and solder the 2pin terminal block (which would be used to connect the transformer).
3. Insert and solder the IN4007 diodes in full cycle configuration.
4. Insert and solder the 100uf capacitor
5. Insert and solder the 2.2k resistor and LED.
6. Identify both the +VE and GND connection.
7. Use the multimeter to test the output voltage (Ensure it reads 12v regulated DC supply).
Step 4: Assemble the Audio Amplifier Unit:
1. From the circuit diagram.
2. Insert and solder the LM386. (Solder the socket first before inserting the LM386 IC).
3. Solder the rest of the components as seen on the circuit diagram.
4. Make sure all circuits are grounded.
Step 5: Assemble the LED Sync Unit:
1. From the circuit diagram.
2. Insert the TIP 31C ic and solder
3. Insert and solder the 4.7k resistor
4. Make sure all connections are grounded
Step 6: Assemble the LCD Unit:
1. From the circuit diagram.
2. Insert and solder the 5v voltage regulator.
3. Insert and solder the PIC16F877A (Solder the socket first without the IC)
4. Insert and solder jumpers on the LCD and the PIC16F877A as seen on the circuit.
5. Insert the 10k variable resistor (which would be used to increase/decrease LCD brightness)
6. Make sure all connections are grounded,
7. Open MPLAB X IDE on your PC and enter the code
8. Compile and run the code.
9. Insert the PIC16F877A on the PICKIT 3 programmer and connect to the software on your PC.
10. Ensure the PIC16F877A is powered, use the inbuilt power from PICKIT 3 software.
11. Program the PIC16F877A IC.
12. Remove and Insert the PIC16F877A IC in the socket on the veroboard.
Step 7: Harmonize All Units:
You should have 4 units (Power unit, Amplifier unit, LED sync unit, LCD unit).
1. Identify both +VE and GND for each unit and connect all to the power supply unit (Note that the LCD has a regulated supply, connect the +VE to the 5v supply).
2. Ensure all units are powered.
Step 8: Prepare the Container
1. Draw an outline around the speaker, LED’s and LCD positions on the container
2. Use a cutter to cut out the holes. You can use the soldering iron for the LED outlines.
3. Insert holes for the volume, switch, audio jack and LED indicator
Step 9: Test and Enjoy Your Music.
Step 10: Assemble and CONGRATS!!!
