Light ring for photo?

A light ring is a device that allows to illuminate a picture framing it. It is usually composed by a set of lights in a circular shape and a hole in the middle. The device generates an almost no shadow image making it very atractive, giving it an ilumination effect that, usually, does not require postproduction nor photoshop.

This is the sheapest and easisest way that I know to build one, Try it, experiment it, make magick and tell me what happen

¿Aro de luz para fotografía?

Un aro de luz es un dispositivo que permite iluminar el motivo de una fotografía en su contorno. Suele constar de un set de luces organizadas de manera circular y un espacio en medio. Genera una iluminación casi sin sombras muy atractiva, lo que le da a la fotografía una calidez particular que suele no necesitar retoques en la postproducción ni Photoshop.

Esta es la forma más barata y sencilla que he encontrado para construir uno. Inténtelo, Experimente, haga magia y cuénteme que pasa.

Step 1: Ingredientes / Ingredients

Ingredients:

1. One meter of led tape (any color. I used white)
2. AC adaptor aprox 12 volt
3. Circular shaped base
   1. It can be a hanger
   2. or it can be a more sofisticated Anti splash screen cover (for kitchen)
4. Tape

Ingredientes

1. 1 metro de cinta led (cualquier color, aca hemos usado blanco) [Costo aproximado: USD$3 o COP$9.000=]
2. 1 adaptador de aproximadamente 12 voltios [Costo aproximado: USD$2 o COP$5.000=]
3. 1 base circular
   1. Puede ser un gancho de colgar ropa metálico [Costo aprox Gratis]
   2. o más sofisticado, una Malla antisalpicaduras para cocina [Costo aprox USD$5 o COP$15.000 )
4. Cinta pegante

Step 2: Lets Cook! / a Cocinar!

Preparation

1. Connect the led tape to the AC adapter taking care about the polarity (remember, the leds are diods with + and -)
2. Prepare the frame:
   1. if you are using a metalic hanger: shape it circular. Be careful. We don´t want accidents.
   2. If you are using a anti-splash-screen-cover: take the metalic net off. You will use the circular base and handler
3. Tape the leds to the frame. Take care to not cover the led.
4. Plug it and enjoy. Allowing the people to see themselves with new eyes (This is a sort of magick ring that helps everybody to see ourselves closer to our reality, it means nicer ). take the chance to gain advantage from this situation to create new social connections and interactions

Preparación

1. Conecte la cinta led al adaptador teniendo cuidado de que la polaridad de los cables coincida (recuerde que los diodos tienen un + y un - )
2. Prepare el marco del aro
   1. Si usa un gancho de ropa metálico: dele forma lo más circular posible y adapte la cabecera del gancho para evitar accidentes
   2. Si usa una tapa anti salpicaduras: Con cuidado, remueva al malla de manera que quede el aro metálico y la empuñadura
3. Pegue la cinta de led al marco con cinta, teniendo cuidado de no cubrir los led. Las cintas de led tienen espacio suficiente en las uniones.
4. Conecte y disfrute permitiendole a las personas verse con unos ojos distintos (Por alguna razón este parece un aro mágico que ayuda a que todos nos veamos más cerca de como somos realmente, es decir más bonitos) Aproveche la oportunidad para generar nuevos lazos sociales e interacciones.

Step 3: Taking the Pictures

Some advices on how to take the pictures

1. Focus in the eyes
2. The ring reflection in the eyes is soo atractive, so be careful to see if the ring is reflected in the eye pupil
3. If you are using a configurable cammera, is my advice to use the photosensor to set the aperture, ISO and speed. Don´t be too much worry about overexposure
4. Is also interesting that the subject introduce partially the face into the ring , making a shadowed image Groups are also welcomed in the picture but they must be close, that is always a good thing.

Algunas recomendaciones sobre como tomar la fotografía:

1. Si está usando una cámara que permita configurar velocidad, diafragma e ISO, le recomiendo que haga uso del fotómetro para equilibrar la luz. Puede estar un poco sobreexpuesta (solo un poco)
2. Enfoque a los ojos
3. El reflejo del aro en los ojos resulta muy atractivo, por lo que fíjese que el aro se refleje en la pupila del sujeto.
4. Resulta también interesante que el sujeto introduzca parcialmente la cara en el aro, generando fuentes de luz desde al rededor del rostro, dejandolo parcialmente ensonbrecido
5. Varias personas pueden participar en la foto, aunque deberán estar particularmente cerca, lo que siempre es bueno
