Introduction: Let's Make Yaki Mandu

Yaki Mandu means Fried Korean Dumplings! They are quite tasty and are served with a soy sauce based dipping sauce. I was introduced to these at a party several years ago and I thought they would be perfect for this Instructable featuring fried foods. They are so easy to make and really yummy! Follow along to see how you can make them too!!

Supplies

1 cup cabbage, minced

1/2 cup yellow onion, minced

1/4 cup carrots, shredded

2 green onion pieces

1 teaspoon avocado oil

1 teaspoon jarred minced garlic

8 ounces ground beef

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

canola oil for frying

24 Won Ton Wrappers from a 12-ounce package


Tools

2 non-stick skillets

shredding/mincing machine, food processor or a grater

Step 1: Mince the Cabbage

Cut off a large portion of the cabbage. Mince using a shredding/mincing machine. I like my hand cranking one. Measure 1 cup of minced cabbage.

Step 2: Mince the Onion

Mince enough onion to make 1/2 cup.

Step 3: Shred the Carrots

Shred and measure carrots to make 1/4 cup.

Step 4: The Green Onions

Slice the green onions, reserving a few for garnish.

Step 5: Time to Fry

Heat 1 teaspoon avocado oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Step 6: Add Veggies

Add the minced cabbage, onion and carrot to the pan along with the minced garlic.

Step 7: Stir Fry It!

Cook and stir for 3 minutes. Set aside.

Step 8: Brown It!

In the other skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat and drain.

Step 9: Blend It.

Add browned ground beef to the cooked vegetables in the pan along with the 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon soy sauce and 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper. Blend well.

Step 10: Make the Dumplings

Wipe out the empty skillet. Add enough canola oil to fry the dumplings, making it about one inch deep. Place the skillet over medium heat. Now make the dumplings. Lay out a won ton wrapper. Using your fingertip, spread water around the edge of the won ton wrapper.

Step 11: Add Filling

Spoon about a tablespoon of the filling onto the center of the won ton wrapper.

Step 12: Fold and Seal

Fold the won ton wrapper over the filling, forming a triangle. Press firmly to seal around the edge.

Step 13: Repeat!

Repeat the steps, filling all of the won ton wrappers.

Step 14: Ready to Fry!

Add dumplings to the hot oil in the pan.

Step 15: Fry and Remove

Fry for about 3 minutes, turning once, until nicely browned and crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon to a paper towel-lined plate. Repeat until all of the dumplings are fried.

Step 16: The Dipping Sauce

In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 teaspoons white vinegar, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper. Mix together until the sugar dissolves.

Step 17: Enjoy!

Sprinkle the dumplings with the reserved sliced spring onions. Serve immediately along with the dipping sauce. I know you are going to love these.
