Introduction: Levitation Disk Magnetic Cover

Problem: We used disks containing very powerful magnets in order to achieve levitation for the vehicle we designed for the Hyperloop competition held in my country this year. However, during both assembly and testing, we noticed that a significant amount of metal dust on the ground began to accumulate on the magnets after a certain period of use, which started to affect their performance. Therefore, we made the decision to design a simple and functional component.

Solution: It was essential for this component to be quickly attachable and detachable in the competition area or during tests. That's why we preferred to use magnets. With four neodymium magnets (measuring d8x1mm) placed between plastic plates, attaching and detaching these covers became very fast and convenient. At the same time, the covers did not fall off on their own.

Step 1: Print the 3D Parts.

For the production of one cover, you will need to print one main body and four magnet slots.

Step 2: Attaching Magnets

Attach the magnets to their respective slots using CA glue.

Step 3: Assembly

Mount the plastic plates containing the magnets onto the main body using CA glue. The magnets should be mounted in a way that they are not visible from the outside.
