Introduction: Lighten Up Knitted X-Mas Wreath
Learn how to make your own X-Mas wreath
Step 1: Step 1: Make Your Wreath
I used the rounded knitting needles to make my wreath. It gave a nice complete circle to work on without having sewing 2 ends together. This is the video I look at as a tutorial on how to use the circular knit.
If you don't want to knit you can also use any kind of soft fabric and sew the 2 ends together. I would recommend choosing a fabric that is translucent enough for a good lighting effect!
Step 2: Step 2: the Circuit
I use a very simple parallel circuit like the illustration here.
Step 3: Step 3: Make the Circuit!
What you'll need:
Power supply – 3V coin battery with a sewable battery holder
Sewing – Needles, conductive thread, conductive fabric tape, and some stuffing
Soft switch – Velostat pressure-sensitive sheet, some sponge
Insulate – some beads
1. Sew you battery holder onto the fabric with conductive thread.
2. On either side of the battery (positive or negative), use some conductive fabric tape on top of the thread you sew to make a little bit larger surface for a better connection of the soft switch.
3. Cut a little hole through your sponge, put a velostat sheet with conductive tape on one side on top of the sponge. That's your soft switch done!
Step 4: Step 4: Insulate Your Circuit and Put LEDs!
While sewing your circuit the beads to insulate your conductive thread. The beads will also work as holders for your LEDs – make sure you make a firm connection!
Step 5: Step5: Enclose Your Circuit
Sew your fabric together to enclose your circuit. Carefully put in some stuffing in while doing it. Now you get a soft and squishy lighten wreath! You can decorate as you like!
