Introduction: Chocolate Coffins
This tutorial will show you how to make creepy/cute little chocolate coffins. :)
Step 1: Moist Chocolate Cake Recipe
125g granulated white sugar
125g flour
100g butter
4 large eggs (at room temperature)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
100g dark chocolate
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Place the egg yolks in a large bowl and the whites in another. Beat the egg yolks with 125g granulated white sugar and 10cl of water until foamy. Add the flour graduately. Melt the chocolate and butter in a microwave. Then add the chocolate mixture to the batter and mix until smooth. You can now add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/2 tsp of baking powder to the chocolate cake mixture.
In a separate bowl beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.Carefully incorporate the beaten egg whites into the cake mixture until evenly mixed.( I used a round silicone cake because I couldn't find my brownie pan :( )
Bake for 25 minutes in a 365 degrees F oven (180 degrees C). Then reduce the temperature to 302 degrees F (150 degrees C) and let the cake bake for another 10 minutes.
Let cake cool in oven.
Step 2:
When the cake has cooled. Place templates over cakes to cut coffin shapes.
Step 3: Decorating Your Cake
For this step you will need:
-Black fondant
-White fondant
-White sugarbeads
-Cherry or Strawberry syrup (for drinks)
-Toothpicks
Roll out your black fondant and place the same templates over it to cut these coffin shapes. Place the fondant on top of the chocolates coffins (use strawberry or cherry syrup to make it stick as shown in pictures). Spread syrup on top of black fondant to make it shiny. You can decorate these little coffins with white sugar beads (or you can make them out of white fondant.
Let your imagination go wild and make spooky white fondant designs to decorate your cakes. :)
Here's a very simple way to make a skeleton hand:
Role 5 thin snakes out of the white fondant, and use a toothpick to poke small indents as show in the pictures.
