Introduction: Luke's Lightsaber (Return of the Jedi) - How to DIY
Luke Skywalker is a legendary Jedi in the Star Wars universe. His story is at the core of the original trilogy. Part of what makes him cool is his self constructed green lightsaber seen in Return of the Jedi.
With my guide through video I will show you how to make Luke's Jedi lightsaber on a budget.
Step 1: Watch the Video!
Watch my video guiding you through the process to making your very own Jedi weapon!
It's short, easy to understand, entertaining and could help greatly!

Step 2: Getting Started/What You'll Need
Getting started with Luke's lightsaber means you'll need this list of materials. It's actually pretty simple.
Materials:
1-1/4 PVC pipe
1 inch PVC pipe
PVC cap
1 1/3 wooden circles
1 1/2 wooden circles
Wooden squares
Cardboard
Wooden dowel
Washers
Chrome/silver spray paint
Acrylic paint - black, copper/gold
Hot glue
Dremel/rotary tool
This list is fairly simple, and above all cheap and affordable!
Step 3: Building the Base
A portion of Luke's lightsaber is a solid piece with a uniquely shaped end piece. This is fairly simple to construct.
Use reference photos in case, and cut the PVC pipes to the correct size, glue the wooden squares in between the ridges of the PVC cap, and spray paint it.
Simple, and easy.
Step 4: The Midsection
Luke's lightsaber is unique in that the middle section is all ridged. I accomplished this using two types of wooden circles that were painted silver and black accordingly and glued in a pattern of:
Black

Then fitted inside the main PVC pipe. Watch the video for more details on this step.
Step 5: Finishing It Off
The top part of Luke's lightsaber is also quite unique. It's thin compared to the rest of the saber, and built on top of something else all of which thin as well.
Youll need to cut the dowel into two short pieces. One painted black, and one painted gold.
The rest is made up from washers, and a wooden cylinder piece.
Watch the video for more, but here are photos of these details!
Step 6: I Am a Jedi, Like My Father Before Me
Once all the pieces are put together, painted and finalized you have your Jedi Luke lightsaber!
Step 7: Conclusion
This prop like my others is much easier to follow with the guide through video. This is a very visual process and explanation through text will not do justice.
I'm happy with the result, and If you decide to make your own Luke lightsaber and have any questions leave a comment on YouTube or on Instructables. I'll be happy to answer!
And if you decide to make your own, post some photos here or send some photos to: justinknoepfel@gmail.com and I'll feature it in my next DIY video!
The Force will be with you. Always.
