Step 1: CUT UP WOOD
Cut your 2x4 into rectangles
4.5-6" any bigger might not look so good any smaller might be a square.
You can use a chop saw or a saw

Step 2: Make Your Holes
Use a forstner bits to make the holes the bigger the better more space for pencils or pens
Drill as deep as you can. Deeper is better
You should clamp your work when drilling deep.

Step 3: Sand the Rough Edges
You can use sand paper or a disk sander to refine the edges.
Step 4: Special Step
If you like the pencil holder as is your done
