Introduction: Make Blueberry Hair Barrettes!

InstaMorph is a special crafting thermoplastic designed to heat up so that it can be manipulated like modeling clay. Once it cools, it hardens into place. Later, it can be reheated to be manipulated again.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to make blueberry hair barrettes.

Thanks to Elaine Dayton for this tutorial!

Step 1: You Will Need..

For this project, you are going to need:

Step 2: Heat It Up!

There are a few different methods for heating up your InstaMorph.

You can use our tutorial for a digital induction warmer here.

We also created a tutorial for using a heat gun here.

Additionally, InstaMorph has alternative methods and other suggestions for more advanced projects here.

Step 3: Shape It Into Balls Around Normal Barrettes!

After the InstaMorph is cool enough to handle, shape it into balls around your hair barrettes.

You might want to try rolling the InstaMorph into a ball first and then carefully mashing it around a hair barrettes.

Try different methods out until you find something you like. Remember that the InstaMorph will have different properties when it hardens, so do not get too discouraged if it seems too loose. Just let it cool and see if it hardens into place. If not, reheat and try again.

You can also try to shape leaf patterns to the side of each blueberry for added effect.

Step 4: Use Colored Pellets or Paint It!

You can either start off with blue thermoplastic pellets added into the InstaMorph, or you can try painting the InstaMorph after it cools off.

Elaine tried blue pellets but it did not go so well, so she touched it all up with blue crafting paint for the blueberries and green crafting paint for the leaves.

If you like this project, try it with other shapes such as our sea creatures!
