This is a really neat and super easy way to make use of an old license plate. You can get creative with it and arrange the lights however you want and paint it in any way too!

Tools:

-Drill and bit
-Soldering iron and solder

Supplies:

-Heat shrink tubing
-Wire
-Epoxy glue
-2x 3mm LEDs (I chose green)
-2x AA battery pack with switch
-2x AA batteries

Let's get to it!

Step 1: Find a Plate and Drill Some Holes!

Pretty self explanatory. Just mark holes wherever you want to put your LED lights and use the appropriate drill bit to make your holes.

I didn't take a photo of the holes before I glued the LEDs in, but you get the idea.

Step 2: Wire Your LEDs Up and Glue Parts On

I used two 3 volt LEDs, and since I used two AA batteries to power them, I didn't need any resistors. Just wire your LEDs in parallel and then solder them to the battery holder wires.

Once you've done that, just use a bit of epoxy glue and glue the lights in from behind and glue the battery holder to the back of the plate with the switch coming through one of the original plate mounting holes.

Step 3: Hang It on the Wall and Switch It On!

Now you're basically done! Just put two AA batteries in and hang it up on the wall! I used two brass hooks to hang mine up.
