Introduction: Make a Mickey Mouse Pumpkin This Halloween

I absolutely love Halloween time at Disneyland. By making this Mickey pumpkin, you can bring Disney Halloween magic to your own home.

While at Disneyland earlier this October, I visited the Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch where I came across a Mickey pumpkin that inspired this design. When it came to making decorations for Halloween, I decided that this would be the perfect touch for our front porch. I especially like that this design requires no carving, which allows this pumpkin to last.

Step 1: Supplies

To make this Mickey pumpkin, all you will need is:

  • 1 medium sized pumpkin
  • 2 small pumpkins, equally proportioned
  • black acrylic paint
  • small paint brushes
  • shish kebab skewers
  • a ballpoint pen

Step 2: Draw Mickey's Face

I pulled the image above, taken while at Disneyland, up on my computer and using it as guidance, drew an outline for the eyes, nose, and mouth.

I found that using a ballpoint pen works best as you can use water and a bit of scrubbing to remove any mistakes!

Step 3: Fill in With Paint

Using small paint brushes, fill in the eyes, nose, and mouth with black acrylic paint.

Step 4: Prepare the Ears

Starting with the sharp end, measure out about 3 inches along the length of the shish kebab stick and cut to size. Do this for a second one.

Then, insert the sharp end of the stick into one side of the small pumpkin.

Step 5: Placement and Make Two Holes

Play around with the small pumpkin that will be Mickey's ear to see which angle and placement you think is best.

Then, once you are ready, mark where the hole should be. Use the sharp end of a third shish kebab stick to puncture a hole in this spot into the larger pumpkin.

Step 6: Attach the Ears

Insert the stick of the small pumpkin ear into place. Do this for the second ear and adjust the angles of the ears as necessary.

Step 7: Enjoy Disney Halloween Magic!

Step back and admire your Mickey pumpkin. :)
