Cash Envelope System

This is a relatively quick, inexpensive, and simple DIY cash envelope wallet.

Step 1: Materials

You will need:
-4 12x12 sheets of scrapbook paper
-Poster board or thick card stock
-Ruler
-Exacto knife
-Glue stick
-Clear packing tape
-Washi tape
-Sewing machine (or by hand)
-1" hole punch (optional)

Step 2: Fold 12x12 Envelope Sheets

Fold the 12x12 sheet of paper in half, the side you want to show as the outside of the envelope will be on the outside when folding. Then, open and fold again, almost into quarters but leaving 1/2 cm between the edge of the paper and the original center fold. Repeat for the other side and the other 2 sheets of scrapbook paper.

You will see the start of two envelopes per sheet.

Step 3: Cut Folded Sheet

Using an Exacto knife and ruler, cut the folded sheet to a length of 6.75 inches.

Step 4: (Optional) Hole Punch

Using a 1" hole punch, align the two ends of the envelope sheet so that the hole punch will only take out a half circle. You want this to be centered on the ends so it looks nice.

This step makes pulling cash out a little easier.

Step 5: Tape the Envelopes

Using the clear packing tape, seal the sides of the envelopes. You want to make sure not to seal above the top edge, or it will be difficult to get cash in and out.

Step 6: Cut Poster Board/card Stock

Using a ruler and scissors, measure a 6.75x7.25 sheet of card stock or poster board. This will be the base for a thick cover.

Step 7: Align Envelopes & Clip in Place

Stacking the envelopes on top of each other, align the center creases. Center the stacked envelopes on the cover sheet and secure into place.

Step 8: Sew Together

Using a sewing machine (or by hand), sew along the center crease of the envelopes so that they are attached to the poster board/card stock.

Step 9: Glue Scrapbook Sheet to Cover

Using the scrapbook sheet you want to be the cover, trace around the sewn envelopes and cover. Leave about 1/2 cm around the edges to fold over.

Use the glue stick to cover the poster/card stock cover and field press the scrapbook paper to it.

Then, glue and fold over the edges. It's tough getting the edges to actually stay, so Washi tape works great to secure them. Bonus: the lines will look cleaner and more finished.

Step 10: Fold & Use

Finally, fold your wallet in half using the stitched envelopes as a guide.

Add labels for your envelopes and you're done!
