Introduction: Mega Lego Block

About: My name is Carolina Hunrichse, i'm an art teacher, and also make paper mache

These blocks will be the decoration of a lego-themed birthday party.

Supplies

Materials:

-Cardboard boxes

-toilet paper tubes

-Glue (flour + hot water and PVA)

-Newspaper

-Tissue paper

-Handsaw

-Paintbrushes

-Paints

-EVA foam

-scissors and cardboard cutter

Step 1: Let's Cut the Cardboard Pieces

As a first step we are going to cut a 20x20 cm square and four 5x20 cm strips, for each lego block.

Then we are going to mark the cardboard circles according to the diameter of the toilet paper tubes.

We must also cut the tubes every 3 cms. We can use a hand saw to make these cuts safely.

Step 2: Let's Reinforce With Paper and Glue

To reinforce the union between the cardboard discs and the tubes, we put strips of newspaper on the inside.

Step 3: Assemble the Parts

We assemble the sides of the box, glue with PVA and fasten with masking tape, then, with PVA, we glue the cylinders to the box and reinforce by gluing tissue paper with flour glue and hot water.

We cover with paper on all sides of the box, interior and exterior. We let dry overnight

Step 4: Let's Give It Some Color

The next day we painted the blocks with the colors of our choice, I chose green, yellow, red and blue.

Paint it inside and outside.

Once the lego blocks are dry, we are going to make the mold of the letters "LEGO" in an spare cardstock.

Cut out each letter from the mold and mark it on the pieces of EVA foam.

Then we cut each letter out of the EVA foam and glued them to the cylinders of the blocks.

We go over the paint one more time and cover with PVA and water to make the paint glossy.

Step 5: Let's Take a Lot of Pictures Comparing the Sizes

In this image we see in more detail that the mega blocks can also be used as a treats-tray and are stackable with each other. I know it looks quite simple in the photos, but it took me 2 weeks to make all the blocks in my spare time.

Thank you
