Introduction: Meta-Boost Jogger

About: I teach 5th-8th grade STEM.

Increase your metabolism and foot speed in order to advance to the next level of the game. This activity will encourage physical activity while being online.

Step 1: Supplies

  1. Cardboard
  2. Egg cartons or other non-conductive material
  3. Aluminum foil/tape or other conductive material
  4. Scissors
  5. Pencil
  6. Tape
  7. Makey Makey with at least 4 alligator clips/wire

Step 2: Preparing the Foot Pads

Trace your foot on a piece of cardboard and cut it out. Repeat that three more times so you have a total of four cardboard pieces. Cover the middle section of the top and bottom pieces for the left and right foot pads.

Step 3: Adding the Barrier

Tape an egg carton cup or piece of cardboard at the ends of the foot pad. Place the top of each foot pad on its lower piece so that the conductive material on the top and bottom doesn't touch. Tape the top piece of each foot pad to its lower half so the cardboard pieces don't slip.

Step 4: Attach the Makey Makey

Connect an alligator clip from Earth on the Makey Makey to the bottom of the left foot pad. Connect a different alligator clip from the top of the left foot pad to the Left Arrow key. Connect a third alligator clip from a different Earth opening to the bottom of the right foot pad. Connect your fourth alligator clip from the top of the right foot pad to the Right Arrow key.

Step 5: Scratch and Makey Makey

Connect your Makey Makey to the computer and load the Scratch Meta Boost game (Sprint Remix). This Scratch program was a remix of the Sprint Race game by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Meta Boost (Sprint Remix)
