Introduction: Metal Bucket Forge

About: Be Excellent To Each Other and Make stuff!!!

Hi in this instructable I will show you how to make a 10qt. metal bucket forge, it is great for melting metal, and getting metal to glow for forging, and its small enough to fit nicely in a cabinet storage

Things you will need:

plaster of paris (or a finely grained cement mixture)

playsand (you can get a 50lb. bag from home depot)

a 10qt. metal bucket (I got mine from home depot)

a 2qt plastic bucket (for making the cavity inside)

a hacksaw (or a 2in. pvc drill bit depending on how big you need the hole)

a metal pipe (optional but recommended)

hair dryer

duct tape

and water

Step 1: The Mixture

Once you have your bucket you will also need some plaster of paris and play sand, the measurements for the playsand to plaster of paris and water are:

21 cups of plaster of paris

21 cups of playsand

and 15 cups of water

mix thoroughly until it is the consistency of syrup, then place the 2qt. bucket of water in the middle of the bucket

and hold it there until it stays down on its own

Step 2: Drilling

once it's almost dry but still crumbly, take the 2qt. plastic bucket out by pulling on one side if the plastic and then slowly start curling it, then once it is out get the hacksaw or a 2in. pvc drill bit (works best) and start drilling down at a 45 degree angle for the air intake port then let it dry completely

Step 3: Pre-burn

once it is fully dry, go outside and place wood/charcoal/lump coal inside the cavity and light it up, this step is to make sure all the moisture is taken out and is ready to get really hot, after the pre burn is done and you think it's reddy, get the metal pipe and tape one side to the hair dryer and put it on slow setting once the knife/crucible inside is glowing it's ready to be forged/melted

please be careful and have fun, I would love to see all your ideas and comments, Thank you for reading my instructable and I hope you have fun with this project thanks -RunicWarrior
