Moscow Mule Recipe
Intro: Moscow Mule Recipe
The Moscow Mule is a crisp, light cocktail that is perfect for summer. I also tested it as a camping cocktail and the results are in: thumbs up. You don't need to drink it out of a copper mug to enjoy it, but it definitely adds to the awesomeness.
Here's how to make this simple(y) delicious drink.
STEP 1: Supplies
You will need the following:
- good quality vodka
- ginger beer (ginger ale will also work, but will be be less spicy)
- fresh lime wedges
- ice
Optional:
- fresh ginger slices
- copper mug
STEP 2: Spice It Up
I love ginger, so the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. Adding a few fresh ginger slices adds a bit more kick and flavor = a win.
Place the ginger slices in the bottom of your serving glass and with the end of your knife or a wooden spoon, muddle them to release their flavor. (muddling = mashing or squishing)
STEP 3: Lime-ness
Cut 1-2 wide wedges of lime per cocktail and set aside.
* I love lime so usually add both slices, but to get started I suggest adding one, then add the second to taste.
STEP 4: Ice Ice Baby
Fill the serving glass half way up with ice.
STEP 5: Mix a Lot
Add a 'one Mississippi' length pour of vodka, squeeze in the lime slice(s), and top the glass up with ginger beer.
Stir.
STEP 6: Serve & Enjoy
This is a great glamping or backyard BBQ cocktail that adds some light and fresh class to summer.

so delicious, easy to make, this is great! putting this on my "what to drink" menu
But the Glamping reference in the last step, now THAT is intriguing...
grandparents camping? Glass lantern camping? green camping?

I hate to be a negative nancy but there are some things worth mentioning. 1. The original recipe call for "Cock and Bull" ginger beer. You can find it if you look hard! I've tried this with many other ginger beers and "CnB" is truly the best. 2. You are using a tin lined copper mug. This will prevent the ionization of the liquid. It will also prevent the copper smell. I believe these 2 aspects are part of what makes this drink so special.
Also there are many copper mugs out there that have a clear spray in lining to prevent discolouration. You can just brillo pad this right off. Your copper will oxidize a bit now. You can just clean it with a little scotch bright pad and soapy water. Copper is an antimicrobial metal and has been used to disinfect water for thousands of years!

Also, the history of the Moscow Mule is super fun to read and tell your friends as you are imbibing.

I would be leery of ingesting too much copper. While it's ok as a TRACE mineral, to have a drink dissolving your cup to the point of smelling the metal in the drink seems like a lot of copper to swallow. Especially when all your drinking water is already coming from copper pipes and too many people are taking unnecessary supplements with more copper added. There is such a thing as copper toxicity syndrome.

Hey, I just saw this copper cup in OLLies!! It has the words on it. Moscow Mule. I thought it was the name of the cup. Well, I might go back and get the copper cup.

If you replace the vodka with irish whiskey, you've got yourself a Dublin Donkey which is the best thing ever created. The Dark and Stormy mentioned below is really good too.

My husband would love this!

OK, substitute a dark Rum (Goslings Black Seal is my choice) & you've got yourself a Dark-&-Stormy, my personal favorite in the summer.
