Introduction: MossMat

Home comfort is build up by the design we choose for our lifestyle.

Being a friend of nature and loving the outdoors I like to bring the green in.

If you do think the same as me you should try this living bathroom mat for your home.

Step 1: Step 1 - Design

The base shapes should be something simple. I have made these two shapes, but that doesn't have to constraign you. If you have basic 3D-modeling skills I recommend you try out different forms and nesting designs!

Step 2: Step 2 - Cell Production

These are the files that you can use to 3D-print your mat parts.

3D printing is a slow and expensive manufacturing method for producing many parts(as is needed for the mat).

So I suggest after choosing your cell design print out 1 or 2 parts of each.

Then use methods like resin molding or injenction molding(links for both metod you can find below)

Resin molding - http://www.mold3d.com/ , http://www.smooth-on.com/pdf/Smoothon_HTB_2008.pdf

Injection molding - http://www.scorchworks.com/Injection_molding/injec...

Step 3: Step 3 - Attachment

The cells hold together via small push-on clip.

Step 4: Step 4 - Alingment

I suggest grouping small amount of cells and then arranging them on the floor.

Step 5: Step 5 - Nesting Design

The final mat should be as big and as intricate, as your heart desires.

Don't put limits on your imagination! The variety of designs is endless!

Step 6: Step 6 - Planting the Moss

Moss is a very durable plant and its easy to look after.

Here is a link of everything you need to know about planting and growing moss - http://www.mossandstonegardens.com/blog/how-to-gro...

Step 7: Step 7 - Enjoy

Now you'll be ready to enjoy the soft feel of the moss on your feet.

The sweetest thing about this mat is that you won't have to worry about watering it, unless you bathe once a month :)
