Introduction: My Punny Valentine for Kids
I love a good pun AND I wanted to make a platonic card for kids to give to classmates. I remember carefully picking the gooiest cards out of the pack for my close girl friends so I wouldn't have to give them to the boys. (Ew gross!) My punny Valentine for kids is meant to subtract awkwardness and add tasty, friendly fun!
Step 1: Are You Ready? Let's Go!
I've attached a pdf of the cards (there's two postcard style cards per 8 1/2 x 11" sheet). Print out as many pages onto card stock as you need. You'll also need the following:
- plastic greeting card sleeves 4 3/4 x 6" (art supply & scrapbooking stores are good sources)
- Twizzlers strawberry licorice
- exacto knife
- tape & scissors OR heart stickers
- pencil or pen
- ruler (not pictured)
- cutting mat

Step 2: Cut!
On a cutting mat, use your ruler and exacto knife to cut out the cards just inside of the dotted blue cut lines.
Also cut (either freehand or with your ruler) the thin blue angled line between the banner and waves. This slot is where the end of the licorice knots will go.
Step 3: Stop (n) Sign
Have your child sign the cards.
Step 4: Let's Get Knotty!
(Snicker)
Make one Twizzler simple knot for each of your cards.
Place the right end of your knot into the angled slot on the right hand side of your card. The knot will be a little floppy, but don't worry! As soon as you put the card into a sleeve, you can adjust where the licorice sits on the card.
NOTE: I initially tried putting two slots on the card, but the pressure on the licorice forced it to break apart, so I tried it again with only one slot and voila! No breakie.
Step 5: To Seal & Protect!
Put each card into a plastic sleeve, being careful to guide both the front and back of the knot in without catching or jamming it.
Adjust your licorice knot so it's centered on the card.
Here's where you can mix it up if you'd like. I used pink washi tape to cut little 'banners' for sealing the sleeves. You can do the same or use heart stickers, simple round stickers, any kind of sticker-ish thing!
Step 6: You're Done! and I'm Not Lion...
Now your child can head to class on Valentine's Day with confidence, knowing that they:
- Won't be fueling any unintentional crush fires.
- Will be delivering delicious fun!
Happy platonic love day everyone!
