Introduction: No Sew Easy Bow Hair Tie

I have 2 beautiful sunshines in my life; 2 little girls. They love to be dressed up with the works ( pretty clothes, pretty shoes, pretty hairdo and pretty accessories) so when I think of jewelry, for me, a hair accessory comes to mind more than necklaces and bracelets because to my little girls it accentuates their ‘simple but beautiful’ look and boy, do they love hair bows! In this instructable i will teach you how to make a simple bow out of fabric and combined with an ordinary hair tie it becomes an extraordinary beautiful bow hair tie.

Supplies

2 pieces of fabric :
A piece measuring 5 inches long by 1 inch wide
A piece measuring 6 inches long by 5 inches wide

A pair of scissors

Simple hair tie

Hot glue or silicon glue

I chose to use silicon glue because it is what I had and it worked perfectly fine but be careful not to burn yourself if you choose to work with hot glue.

A while ago I cut a pair of jeans trousers into shorts so I had enough scrap jeans to use for this project and I also made a fabric accessory bag. (Comment below if you would like an instructable for that)

TIP: you can use another scrap of fabric but be very picky because it is harder to fold the bow with fabric that is too thick and it should not be too thin that it won't hold its shape.

Step 1: Cut, Glue and Fold

Once you have your fabric pieces cut to the required measurements. Take the larger piece of fabric and put glue all around the edges on the back side of it. Then carefully fold the longest sides inwards and with a little pressure press down for at least 5 seconds to keep it in place while the glue works its adhesive magic. After that, you will need to add a small amount of glue to the corners (this is shown in the picture with the 4 arrows). Then take the left short side and fold it in towards the middle. Take the right short side and fold it in towards the middle as well, holding in place for at least 5 seconds. This is so you hide the frayed bits where the fabric was cut.

For the smaller piece of fabric: on the back side of it, put glue first on the left side and fold 2/3 of the way and with a bit of pressure press down and hold in place for at least 5 seconds. Now, put glue on the right side of the fabric piece and fold in towards the middle and same as before, press down and hold in place for at least 5 seconds.

Step 2: Accordion Style Fold and Glue

With your fingers accordion style fold the middle of the fabric from top to bottom. Make sure to hide the edges by making them both face the back.

TIP: This is the trickiest part so take your time and play around with the folds until your bow looks the way you want it.

Once you have your perfect accordion fold carefully put glue inside each curve of the accordion style fold. First on the front curves of the bow and remember to hold in place for at least 5 seconds. Then do the same at the back: put glue inside each curve of the fold and hold in place ( 5 sec).

Step 3: Wrap and Done

Put glue 2/3 of the way on the back of your long piece of fabric. Place the bow (with the back side facing you) on top of the long piece of fabric and then place your hair tie in the middle of the bow. Start sticking the long piece of fabric from the back of the bow, wrapping it all the way around and stop when you reach the back again. Cut off the extra piece of fabric that remains after fully wrapping your bow. Give it an hour for the glue to dry and you’re done!

Woot! Woot! Your bow hair tie is ready to add some flair to your hair!
