Introduction: Outboard Motor Crane for Saliboat
Outboard motor crane for raising and lowering outboard motors.
One of the hardest jobs to do in boating is lifting and lowering an outboard motor. It's like moving furniture. Nobody ever wants to help you with the task. And it's dangerous because you can hurt your lower back.
You can build this crane with 3 hardware parts, plus bolts, washers and nuts. And you can then raise and lower the motor without needing any help.

Supplies
Step 1:
A workstation as in the picture for cutting and drilling holes will help you make this project easier.
2 Stanley sawhorses, joined with 2x4 wood to hold a Pony bench vice.
Cut the pipe with a hacksaw. And drill the holes into the pipe with a drill.
Drilling holes into a steel pipe has a learning curve.
Use the lowest speed on your drill so it doesn't overheat. Lubricate the drill bit tip with oil. (motor oil works)
And punch a guide hole with a hammer and nail to have a starting point for your drilling.
Step 2:
The pulley system is a Schaefer Fiddle Block which you can purchase at your local marine store. I have a steel shackle at the end of the pipe holding the pulley. And you're good to go.
