Introduction: Personal Patti Lupone
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to attend a musical starring the legendary Patti Lupone?
Have you ever wanted to go to a Patti Lupone concert, but maybe didn't have the funds for it?
Well have I got a solution for you!
With this tutorial I will teach you how to make your very own Patti Lupone to entertain you at home.
You will be able to customize the song she sings, and in classic Lupone fashion, the angry response she gives when you take a flash photo while she's performing!
Step 1: Requirements
You will need the following things to create your personal Patti:
- Arduino Uno.
- Banggood MP3 Shield.
- Jumper wires.
- LDR module.
- Hamburger speaker.
- Breadboard.
- 1K resistor.
- Styrofoam head.
- Patti-like wig.
- Paint for the face.
- SD card and SD card-reader.
You can choose whatever wig looks most like the hairstyle of the Patti you want to create.
Step 2: Coding and Wiring
Let's get started by uploading the code to your Arduino.
You will need to install this library in your sketch:
https://github.com/madsci1016/Sparkfun-MP3-Player-...
You can find how to do this in the sketch tab in your Arduino program
Open the Arduino file attached here in your Arduino program and upload it to your Arduino board by pressing the upload button.
TIP: Do not upload sketches to your Arduino while the MP3 shield is mounted on top. It will likely cause an error while uploading.
The code is really a combination of two different sets of code I found. One for the usage of the MP3 shield, and one for the usage of the light sensor. I trew in some if statements to make the arduino play a certain audio file if a certain light level is registered.
Mount your MP3 shield onto your Arduino board.
Connect the wires as shown in the example.
Download your favorite Patti song to your SD card, and name it 002.mp3. Make a text to speech conversion of an angry response and name it 001.mp3, upload this to your SD card as well. Then insert the SD card into the SD card slot on your MP3 shield.
Insert the speaker into the jack on your MP3 shield.
If you insert the SD card into your MP3 shield and mount it onto your Arduino, it should start playing the song.
If you take a flash photo of the light sensor your Patti will say the text to speech mp3 you made.

Step 3: Soldering and Wiring
Make a cavity in the back of your styrofoam head that's big enough to hold your Arduino with MP3 shield and speaker.
Convert your breadboard setup to your circuitboard and solder the connections between the modules and wires in the way you put them on your breadboard.
Be sure to solder longer wires to the legs of your Light sensor, as it will have to go over the top of the styrofoam head.
Make sure to test once you've soldered everything into place!
Step 4: Decoration and Finishing
Now that your wiring is all done, you can decorate the styrofoam head.
Try to recreate the look your Patti wore for the most authentic result!
Mount the wig on your Patti, make sure the light-sensor is still exposed.
TIP:You can cut a hole in the back of the wig so your power cable can fit through!
And that finishes up the project!
You now have your very own Patti Lupone to perform for you whenever you want!
Just don't take any pictures of her while she's performing, she will get angry.
