Introduction: Personalized Wooden Names
I have been creating these names being carved out of wood for about 10 years.
This process allows you to create your own personalized name and paint it whatever color you want. A base is attached and hooks attached to the base to hang anything like belts, jewelry or other light weight items. It is best to use a soft wood for easier cutting.
Step 1: Materials & Create the Words
Materials:
- 4 inch wide wood plank - can be 1/4 - 1/2 inch wide
- 2 inch wide wood strips
- Scroll saw
- Dremel tool set
- Metal eyelets and hooks
- Wood Clamps
- Spray Paint - your choice of colors
You can use a stencil or freehand to create the name or phrase you want. Unless you want separate letters, draw the letters with a point on each letter attaching to the next. You can look at how the names look after I cut them out.
Step 2: Carving the Names
Using the scroll saw carve out the names along the lines you drew. Once complete use the dremel tools to smooth out any rough spots and drill any holes needed such as the letters "A" and "R" in the names I created.
Cut the wood strips to the length of the names. Attach the names to the wood strips with wood glue and clamps and let set overnight.
Step 3: Paint and Finish It
Hand or spray paint whatever color or combination you want. Once the paint is dried, attach the eyelets as shown to hang the names and also to hang things from them. You can use fishing line, ribbons or picture hanging attachments to hang.
