Introduction: Punisher Skull Garage Sign
I don't know about you, but I love the Punisher Skull. So I made a Garage sign with the skull the main focus. In this Instructable, I will show you the process I used to make it. I have also included the video.
What you will need:
CNC Router, I used my X-Carve CNC
CAD/CAM Program, I used Vectric Aspire
90* V-Bit
1/8" Endmill
1/4" Endmill
Pine board 24" x 11.1/4" x 3/4"
Stain, I used Rustoluem Ebony
Rustoluem Clear Matte finish
Orbital Sander with 220 grit sandpaper
Paint brushes
Clean Rags or paper towels
Hanging hardware and screws
Step 1: Design
I designed the project in Vectric Aspire, found me a shape of and old sign on the internet. Then I imported the picture in Aspire and done a trace on it. Had to rework the vectors until I got the desired shapes as seen in the pictures. I then added Circle vectors and Lines as shown in the pictures. Then I added the lettering and Punisher Skull. Once my design was finished, I switched to the Toolpath side.
Step 2: Add Toolpaths
On the Toolpath side, I choose the V-Carve/ Engraving Toolpath. Cutting at a depth of .08 and using a 90* V-Bit and a 1/8" Endmill for the flat areas. I done 3 different toolpaths with this settings, first highlighting the inner circle and the skull, then one with the Ride to Live wording and last the rest of the sign. I then highlighting the next to outer edge vector and choose the choose the profile toolpath, using a 1/4" Endmill, cutting just enough to cut thru the sign, added tabs to hold the sign in place. Once this was all done, I preview the carving before exporting the toolpaths.
Step 3: Carve
I then clamp my piece of pine board in my CNC. Installed a 90* V-Bit and begin to Carve, then change to a 1/8" Endmill, and carved the flat spots with it. To cut out the project, I used a 1/4" Endmill bit.
Step 4: Stain
Once piece is cutout, sand off the fuzzies and around the radius real good. Then stain the wood, using Rustoluem Ebony stain, brush over entire piece, front and back. Let the stain set for about 3 minutes, then wipe off the excess.
Allow it to dry for a couple of days.
Step 5: Sand
Then take a Random Orbital sander with 220 grit sandpaper over the surface, revealing the bare wood.
Note blow off and wipe down with a rag, before continuing.
Step 6: Finish
Then sprayed a couple coats of Rustoluem Matte Clear finish, and let dry overnight
,
Step 7: Enjoy
Attach hardware and hang up, in your Garage, Man Cave room or wherever you like. I think the sign came out great,
