Introduction: Quarantine Birthday Party Hats
Everyone needs a party hat for their birthday, especially when celebrating during a shelter-in-place!
These quarantine inspired party hats are decorated with mask, toilet paper, and virus details and are topped with pom poms for a touch of sparkle!
Step 1: Materials
To make these quarantine inspired party hats, you will need:
* Assorted Colored Cardstock
* Gold Foil Cardstock
* Tape
* Mod Podge/Glue
* Paintbrush
* Ribbon or elastic
* Pom Poms
* Party Hat Template
* Quarantine inspired vectors or stickers
* Cutting machine or scissors
Step 2: Create the Party Hats
First, cut the party hat template out of cardstock. I used a Cricut cutting machine but you could also print the template directly onto the cardstock and cut it out using scissors.
Fold it into a cone shape and tape along the edge.
Step 3: Quarantine Themed Decorations
To make the decorations, I used Adobe Illustrator to create vectors of the toilet paper, virus, and mask shapes. To do this, first find an image such as a silhouette. Then, trace it in Illustrator and export it as an SVG file. Import the SVG into your cutting machine's software and cut the shapes out of the gold foil cardstock. Sticker paper would also work well.
Step 4: Decorate!
Glue the quarantine themed decorations onto your party hats. I used a paintbrush and Mod Podge. Press down on the edges until the shape sticks to the party hat.
I randomly placed the shapes, keeping in mind that two of the same kind aren't directly next to each other. I glued some shapes towards the bottom edge of the party hats, trimmed the shape along the edge, and used the trimmed portion of the shape to decorate the bottom edge of another hat!
Step 5: Add Pom Poms
To complete the party hat, glue a pom pom on top! You could also make a sparkly tassel.
Step 6: Add Ribbon
Measure the length of ribbon that you'll need to hold the party hat on top of your head. I used ~20" of ribbon. Tape it inside the party hat on two sides of the hat.
Test it out! Place the party hat on top of your head to make sure the ribbon is the right length. If not, trim it or tape it higher inside the hat.
You could also use elastic instead of ribbon. I just didn't happen to have any on hand.
Step 7: Party!
It's time to party! (socially distanced of course)
Show off your quarantine themed party hats and/or gift them to a friend who's celebrating during this time of uncertainty. It's sure to bring a smile to his or her face :)
