Introduction: Quick and Dirty Duct-Tape Corset.

Have parties to attend this weekend for Halloween, but still don't have a costume? Rocky Horror Picture Show in town? Never fear! With the quick and dirty duct-tape corset, you can have a cheap, easy costume in less than an hour.

Granted, this won't hold up for more than about a half-dozen wearings, but I think it is a great option if you's rather not invest in a 'real' corset, as they can easily cost hundreds of dollars.

Go grab some tape and let's get started!

Step 1: Materials

You will need:

3 rolls of duct tape in any color of your choosing (two for the body, one for finishing/details)

Scissors

A shirt you don't mind be ruined

A friend (optional)

Step 2: Step One

Put on the t-shirt that you don't mind losing and a bra (don't worry, if you're careful we won't lose that.) Preferably the fit is snug, with little loose fabric-- if there is extra fabric, make a fold and pin it toward the inside, so that the outside is as smooth as possible.

Step 3: Step Two

Wrap yourself with tape. Having an assistant will make this much easier, but I did it alone. Wrap tightly, but not to the point that it is uncomfortable (remember, you'll have to stick a pair of scissors under it.

More importantly, try to keep the tape even and smooth. You can wrap either horizontally (alone) or lay strips vertically, which looks nicer but is impossible to accomplish without help. wrap as high, or a few inches higher and lower than you intend to wear it. (This way you can make a decorative edge if you so desire.)

Step 4: Step Three

Very carefully, cut the corset off. Top down is easier if you're alone, while bottom up is often easier for a friend. Make sure to avoid cutting any undergarments (or yourself!) Trim off a half inch to an inch on either side, following the curve of the garment so it cinches in when you tie it.

Step 5: Step Four

Lay the corset out and layer vertical strips of duct tape over the 'body' you just made, this is will smooth out any rumples and make it look nice. :) Fold strips of tape in  half to cover your edges.

I would suggest an additional three layers of tape, but if you're in a rush one will suffice.

Step 6: Step Five

From here the possibilities are quite endless. It can be overbust or underbust (just cut it to your desired height.) you can use tape to put a design on it, or cut it again to allow more lacing. Folding tape along the edges in a contrasting color to finish it looks neat.

When you have it the way you want it, take a hole-punch (or a nail) and put an even number of holes in the front (5-10 per side.) Lace it up and you're ready to go! (Well, you my want to find something to wear with it, first.)
