Introduction: Quick and Dirty Infant Over-alls
Quickly turn an old sweater into overalls for a baby.
Step 1: Materials
You'll need:
1 old sweater with baggy arms
1 outfit to use as a pattern
Scissors
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Pins
I used a wool sweater for warmth and to act as something of a diaper cover. Fleece or a sweatshirt would also work nicely.

Step 2: Remove Sweater Arms From Body
Cut or seam-rip to remove the sleeves from the sweater body.
I cut, but you wouldn't have to worry about fraying as much if you ripped the seam.

Step 3: Line Up in Correct Shape
Lay your sleeves out in the shape of an outfit with the original wrists becoming ankles.
Step 4: Shape
Cut one arm hole using the original outfit as a guide. Cut the top of the shoulder to the correct height. Cut down the seam to where the legs should meet and remove the seam. Or seam rip along that seem. Then use the first piece as a guide to cut the second side for simetry.
Step 5: Layer
Unfold the layers to the bottom two. Pin at the corners as marked by the spools of thread.
Step 6: Fold
Fold the layers together for the front and pin at the corners for the top two layers. Note the overlap where the legs meet. That helps keep the outfit closed when the baby isn't squatting.
Step 7: Sew
Sew from pin to pin in the front and back. Use a zig zag stitch or allow a little stretch as you sew. Turn the garment inside out and sew the shoulder seams.
Step 8: Trim
Trim your threads and try it on.
The shoulders can be separated and the outfit is put on like pants. The shoulders are then pulled up on the arms.
There middle opens when the baby is placed on a potty or for diaper changes.
My son is wearing an elastic belt here with a diaper that is simply tucked in front and back.
