Introduction: ROLLING CAN MOTOR
Rolling motor system describes the motion of a rolling wheel, car tire or can. A wheel rolling over a surface have both linear and rotational motions (also called trans- rotational motion).
These systems have vast applications in automobile engine.
Supplies
MATERIALS NEEDED
Iron rod
Two cans
15mm PVC pipe
Two elbow connectors
PVC glue
TOOLS NEEDED
Plier
Nail
Step 1: Making the Handle and Steering
MATERIALS NEEDED
- PVC pipe
- Two elbow connectors
- PVC glue
STEPS
- Arrange the Pipe and connectors as shown in the 2nd picture
- Glue them together
Step 2: Attaching the Roller Cans
MATERIALS NEEDED
- Two cans
- Iron rod
STEPS
- Make a hole at the other end of the pipe
- Insert the rod into the first can, then into the pipe and finally through the second can
- Bend the rods by 1cm at the two ends, leaving a little gap between the can and the point of bending
Step 3: HOW IT WORKS
When the motor is been pushed over a surface through the handle, the rolling cans have both linear and rotational motions (also called trans- rotational motion). This is a great toy for the kids.
