Introduction: Rubik's Cube Puzzles

Fool even the smartest of minds with these fun Rubik's Cube tricks! I've tested them on a bunch of people, and not one of them figured it out without me telling them.

In this Instructable, I have a total of three tricks, although there are many more. You can even make up your own!

Step 1: Rules

Before we start, I would like to lay a few ground rules here.

  1. NO SWITCHING THE STICKERS!!! This is probably the most common trick to "solving" the Rubik's Cube. True, it could solve the problem, but it takes all the fun out of it.
  2. Only perform the number of moves/twists given. At the beginning of each puzzle, I will give you a number of twists that you can do, and that is the ONLY number of twists that you can do. Although, some of the twists are 90 degree twists, and some are 180 degree twists. That's part of the trick.
  3. The last and final rule. You need an already solved Rubik's Cube to do these tricks. If your cube is not solved, then you will need to solve it or find someone who can. Also, when I begin each puzzle, I will have the white side up top, the red side in front, and the blue side to the right the entire time, just like the picture above. These are the colors that I prefer, but you can do any colors you want.

Step 2: Forming the Centered Rubik's Cube

This is my favorite puzzle to do. To form the Centered Rubik's Cube, perform the following steps.

  1. Turn the two sides of the red face clockwise 90 degrees.
  2. Turn the top and bottom faces counterclockwise 90 degrees.
  3. Turn the front and back faces (red and orange) clockwise 90 degrees.
  4. Turn the two sides of the red face clockwise 90 degrees.

Now you have your centered Rubik's Cube!

Step 3: Solving the Centered Rubik's Cube

Now, the trick is to solve the centered cube in 8 moves. To do this, simply do the steps you did to form the cube, but in reverse. Just in case you need help, I put some pictures above.

Step 4: Forming the Checkered Rubik's Cube

This is one of the easiest puzzles to form. Follow the steps below to make the checkered Rubik's Cube.

  1. Turn the two sides of the red face clockwise or counterclockwise 180 degrees.
  2. Turn the top and bottom faces (white and yellow) clockwise or counterclockwise 180 degrees.
  3. Turn the front and back faces (red and orange) clockwise or counterclockwise 180 degrees.

You have made the Checkered Rubik's Cube!

Step 5: Solving the Checkered Rubik's Cube

Try solving this puzzle in 6 moves. Again, to solve the Checkered Rubik's Cube, all you have to do is perform the steps that you did to form it, but in reverse order. Above are some pictures to help you.

Step 6: Forming the 4-Move Rubik's Cube

As you probably already know, you only need 4 moves to form and solve this puzzle. The steps are shown below.

  1. Turn the right side of the red face counterclockwise 90 degrees.
  2. Turn the top face counterclockwise 90 degrees.
  3. Turn the back face (orange) counterclockwise 90 degrees.
  4. Turn the top face clockwise 90 degrees.

And there's your 4-Move Rubik's Cube!

Step 7: Solving the 4-Move Rubik's Cube

As you can most likely guess, to solve this puzzle in 4 moves, do the steps in reverse. The pictures above show you how to do this process.

Step 8: Making Your Own Puzzles

One of the best things about having a Rubik's Cube is that I can make more than one puzzle. I like to test myself by giving the cube to someone else and telling them to make a number of turns. Then, I try my best to solve it. You can also close your eyes and do the turns yourself, and then try to solve it. You can experiment and create some extremely hard puzzles yourself!
