Introduction: Rustic 3-Tier Produce Hanger
Counter space is valuable real estate in the kitchen. What gadgets and appliances get used often enough to stay on the countertop and what gets tucked away in cupboards?
This instructable goes through the steps I took to make my own 3-tier produce hanger to free up counter space in my kitchen. Even if you don't want to make your own, this idea of using a hanging produce basket still provides a creative way to declutter your kitchen counters.
Supplies
- 3 wire baskets
- rope (at least 8 ft)
- chalkboard labels
- chalk pen
- twine
Step 1: Preparing the Rope
The length of your rope will depend on how low you want your baskets to hang, but it's always best to have too much then not enough. I would suggest having at least 8 feet of rope.
First, cut the rope into three equal length pieces. Then knot the three lengths of rope together at one end. The video provides an easy demonstration to securely knot three ropes together.
Step 2: Attaching Baskets
Identify three points on the perimeter of the basket that are equal distances from each other. Push the rope through an opening in the wire mesh from the outside of the basket near the rim then push the rope back out directly below that point at an opening near the bottom of the basket.
Repeat this for all three points around the basket then pull the rope through and repeat for the second basket. On the final basket, push the rope through an opening near the rim then tie a knot to secure.
Step 3: Adding Labels
Adding handwritten chalk labels to the baskets gives a cute, rustic detail. Just write on the label what produce will be in the basket and tie it onto the basket with some twine.
Step 4: Declutter Your Counters
Decluttering isn't just about throwing away items you don't use. It is also about organizing the things you do use in a cleaner more effective way.
I couldn't get rid of my produce when I decluttered my kitchen because it is something my family eats everyday. But being able to clear up counter space was important to me, and I like the decorative rustic look my new produce hanger gives to my kitchen.
