Howdy all,

This Instructable will show you how to make your own reasonably cheap custom snow globe. These can be really made to any design but obviously I went with the Star Wars BB8 droid design....

Background Info:

After a recent disaster where my other half lots 2 of her favourite Disney Snow globes in a cleaning incident I have been looking to cheer her up. We have managed to kind of fix them but they aren’t the same in her eyes unfortunately so I thought about making her a custom one for her office.......since she is a HUGE Star Wars fan like myself I knew what to do

Step 1: You Will Need....

For this Instructable you will need:

  • DIY snow globe jar
  • One half of a small clear plastic ornament or whatever you have, cheap plastic xmas ones work great ( be carefull when cutting )
  • Large silver glitter
  • Orange glitter
  • White, silver, black, and orange acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Small Star Wars toy, like the new Micro Machines ( choice on type/style is up to you )
  • Super glue or Elmer’s glue
  • Clear dish soap or glycerine

Most of this list (if not all) can be collected from your local Hobbycraft, Lucky for me I have a Hobby Craft and local Toy store within the same shopping centre so this worked out and the total was around £23 for all the parts (sound alot but you will have some left over )

Step 2: Getting Started

Begin by covering the ornament thing in primer, then when dry white paint.
Two coats may be needed for full coverage.

Spray cans, can be used but remember to primer for better results, it depends on what you have to hand and what finish you want

I will be honest I did have the intention of using my 3D printer to print a more accurate head but could not get the shape to fit on top of the clear globe section, so went with a 2 part old xmas decorations ( hopefully you know what I mean )

Step 3: BB8's Body Internals Pt1

While the top is drying, you can now add your required amount of glitter and the Toy,

I chose the mighty X-WING as its epic ( I picked it up from a toy store for like 99p ) At this point if you wanted to glue it into place this would be a gllod time before its sealed, I decided against it but its personal choice, add as much as you want but less is more in my eyes.

Once you have your amount of glitter and Toys proceed to the next stage young padwan

Step 4: BB-8s Body Internals Pt2

Now your globe has the glitter and the toy in, you next need to add about a tablespoon of the clear dish soap or glycerine inside the globe.

Once done VERY VERY slowly fill the globe with water and DO NOT to create bubbles if using dish soap, this will ruin the effect and you will have to start over.......trust me I found out the hard way

One filled to the top seal and follow the included directions for sealing the globe properly to prevent any leaking that come with the kit.

Step 5: BB8's Head

By now BB-8s head should be nice and dry. You can now add the detail to BB8, I used random images from google to work out a rough design.

Use the silver, black, and orange paint to add the details of BB-8’s head.

If you’re a stickler for accuracy you can add 3D parts or even use stickers if you have them, anything works really

Step 6: Almost Done....

Once you’re happy with your details and all the paint is completely dry, use the glue to attach BB-8’s head on top of the globe.

I added it at a bit of an angel to look more like he is on the run lol

Step 7: Finished...........

Now
enjoy, your finished.

I must admit I wasn’t too happy at first with the result but seeing the Pictures the other half took and hearing the response on FB its grown on me massively

Watch this space for the BB-8 2.0 version coming soon

Thanks For Looking & If you have Voted for this in a competition Thankyou
