Introduction: Santa's Shop, 2020

About: I am an author and a maker. My current project is Santa's Shop. I'm working on a science fiction type book--more later. @EngineerRigsby

This animated window display, involving more than 2,500 hours of labor to create, will be available for free public viewing again this year.

For details on some of the changes for this year, please check out the following steps.

A history of some of the construction can be found here.

Santa’s Shop will be on display daily this December, operating from 5:30 P.M. to 9 P.M. in the window at: Brightway Insurance Agency; 9127 SW 52nd Ave, Gainesville FL 32608

Step 1:

In the Christmas classic movie, "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians," a Martian robot (Torg) is sent into Santa's Shop to kidnap Santa. Santa turns the robot into a toy, so Torg is last seen inside Santa's shop.

A model of Torg was constructed and placed inside Santa's Shop, 2020.

Step 2:

What would the holidays be without a tensegrity structure?

If you want to build your own "floating" structure using cardboard, try this.

Step 3:

The Golden Sonic Spaceship, a sound controlled toy from the 1950 era, is brought back to life.

Step 4:

Cookies, made using polymer clay, have been added to the back wall.

Step 5:

Vanishing cheese is new this year--details here.

Step 6:

Tin type Lionel trains (95 to 105 years old) operate throughout the display. Significant work was done to keep the trains moving--not too fast or too slow.

If you get a chance, stop by and take a look!
