Introduction: Sewing With Me! (Class)
Im wanting to teach people that its nice haveing a mini pillow in the car ⁺~⁺
This will be like a class
Sorry for how long it is, Its still kinda new.
Step 1: Fabric
Fabrics!
I get my fabrics from old t-shirts or pants, however you can get some from the store.
In this "class" I will be showing how to make a pillow, out of a shirt. So the logo is in the middle of the pillow.
Step 2: Pins and Thread
Pins, pins, pins!!!!
Pins is how you get the best looking... whatever it is your making.
However you don't have to use pins, I don't and the projects don't come out that great.
Threads!
What I use is just white thread, on a big spool.
I have different colors, but since I cheaped out, theres only one layer on thread, and its pretty cheap.
So dont cheap out, and buy good stuff.
Step 3: Tools and Other Items
scissors: For sewing you will want to get sewing scissors, however you don't have to.
(mini tip) If your not using sewing scissors, cut the fabric around the back and then cut little by little. (see picture)
Screw driver: You will most likely want one of these. I have one of the "multi screwdriver hex thing kit". I would use a screwdriver for removing the plate.
Brush: Sometimes you need to, if your like me and mess up often, brush some of the thread out of the bobbin "room".
Needle: This will be mainly used for a hidden stitch. I still can't do it though.
Bobbins: Bobbins are meant for certain machines, so don't screw up like I did and buy the wrong bobbins.
Poker: This can be used to push stuffing in stuff. (insert lenny here)
Step 4: Stuffing
Normal Stuffing: Its fluffy, thats pretty much it.
Fluffy Bead Stuffing: Its like stuffing, but feels squishy and could be best used for relaxing your head or hands.
Beads: Just like the fluffy beads, but hard.
Step 5: Sewing Types
Hand sewing
Hand sewing is using a needle, (with a hole) to sew. (You don't say, do you?) Thats what has been used for a long time, and is still used.
Sewing machine
This is the best way (to me) to sew because its way faster. Bonus part is, that you dont feel like your going to cut your self!
Step 6: Safety
SAFETY, WHATS THAT JONATHEN?!?!?
Well there are some really simple ones:
1 Don't put your hand near the needle when sewing, It hurts....
2 Don't leave pins laying around, again it hurts
3 Don't sew your hand to anything
4 Don't set your house on fire
5 Don't put your hand where the bobbin goes when on
Step 7: Pillows!!!!!!!!
I have made 3 pillows so far. (Wow, so cool)
First one was with jeans, it was meant to have a J on the front, I failed and didn't do it.
Second time was with a scheels shirt. So the logo was on it.
Last time was with a black shirt. I used orange tread and made a J with it, and didn't fail, kinda.
For this project you will need:
- Fabric (shirt or anything)
- Sis
Step 8: Project One, Pillow
A pillow is what were going to make.
First get some fabric.
What I do is (if its a shirt) is mark the size of pillow I want, then make it about 1" bigger or 2cm.
Now, put pins on the in side of the square and on the out side
Cut it out
Now if you want a letter on , nows the time
Put the bobbin in the bobbin holder and then put the bobbin holder in the "bobbin holder "holder"" ( just put the pokey bit in the pokey bit hole )
Then load the tread in the top of the machine
Feed it through the machine, My sewing machine has arrows and numbers to show you what to do (i have the singer simple)
I set the dial to one that has lots of thread on one area, like ||| or zig zag
|:|:|:|:|:| Now sew in the shape of the letter you want, or crude picture
--------
(starting of pillow) Now to sew our pillow
IF YOU HAVE A SIDE YOU WANT FACING OUT, FLIP THE FABRIC INSIDE OUT!!!!!!!!!
Now select the zig-zag motion on the dial, and set the spacing to 3-4 for neat and quick and 1-2 for even neater but slower
Sew on the edges of the fabric, leave about a 1-2" hole at the end
------
SUTUFFING
Chose what stuffing you want, i'm doing "fluffy beads that get every where" I put hot glue around all the edges so hopefully it wont seep out.
Fluffy beads: If you have a funnel use it, i didn't so i used a mini cup, or shot glass and poured it in
Stuffing: Use your finger or push stick to fill it up
Beads: Pour them in :)
-----
LAST STEP
Now your going to want to make a hidden stitch, or you can use hot glue like me .-.
-----
Notes
I can't hand sew well, so thats why I hot glued it shut, If you do it neater then me then it should be better then sewing it.
