Introduction: Simple Box Lamp

I found these old style lightbulbs and really wanted to showcase them for a themed party I was throwing. However this is a great basic template that begs to be embellished especially for a steampunk theme.

Step 1: The Box.

the right box is important. I got mine at hobby lobby for five or six bucks, but you can get one anywhere. you want an unfinished wooden box.

Step 2: Other Stuff

a replacement lamp socket, replacement lamp cord, and I found this cool dimmer switch.

Step 3: The Bulb

old style bulb. they are a little expensive but the warm glow and the style is wonderful.

Step 4: Make a Hole!

in the top center of your box. I made mine just a little smaller than my socket and used a rotary tool to get it JUUUUUSSST right. This is a good time to wipe it clean and stain the box. I used a clear polyurethane on mine.

Step 5: Prep the Socket

disconnect anything you don't need... with a rotary tool if necessary.

Step 6: Fit It In

and glue it into place.

Step 7: Another Hole

I drill two small holes and connect them together. Feed the plugin wire through it. The bare wire screws into the socket terminals.

Step 8: Screw the Lightbulb in and Enjoy!

might plug it in too. That usually helps.

Step 9: Variation : Dual Light

used a smaller socket and wired both plug wires to the first socket. then ran two wires to the second socket. like the sockets were rungs on a ladder. This is called wireing in parallel.

Step 10:
