Introduction: Sleeping Bread Dragon
This is for pixl edge
I am fascinated by dragons, and love drawing them. I decided to make my bread into a sleeping dragon, this was fun and quite a big step for me as I had never made bread before : )
I used the recipe for "easy white bread" from the BBCs Good Food website.
Here are the instructions:-
~mix the flour, salt and yeast
~make a well, add the olive oil and water
~if stiff, add a table spoon or more of water
~kneed for 10 minutes on a floury surface
~leave in a bowl for an hour .
Now for the exciting bit......
DRAGONS
Supplies
500g strong white flour(and a bit for dusting)
2tsp salt
7g of fast acting yeast
3tbs of olive oil
300ml of water
Step 1: Making the Shapes
First of all, we need to make shapes out of the dough.
Put these on baking parchment (grease-proof paper) on a oven tray. It is easier to do this now, than trying to move it when it is finished.
Using the large ball of dough, you now need to make:-
a large ball (for the body)
a small ball (for the head)
4 tiny ovals (for the legs)
2 larger ovals (for the neck and tail)
And of course, some large wing shapes (I have no idea what the name is for them as they are weird)
:p
Step 2: Putting the Shapes Together
Put them together like in the picture.
This is the fun part as you can design your dragon how you like.
For example, you may choose a longer neck or tail.
It is easiest to make it sleeping. Otherwise it could slowly fall down and look messy
Be as imaginative as you like - mine is only a guide
Step 3: Adding the Dragon DETAILS : )
An interesting method of making scales is to cut holes in the back of the dragon. Then pull up the dough so triangles of skin come off. (kids : never do this to a real dragon!)
Or if you have a lot of time, add sunflower seeds for scales on the dragon's back.
I also put sunflower seeds for teeth and eyes.
Step 4: Lazy Dragons
Leave your dragon to rest for an hour before putting the oven on to 220 f
You should pre-heat the oven before you put the dragon in.
This dragon is quite lazy, so in total will rest for about two hours in the whole process.
After the dragon's nap put it in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes (I did 30 minutes as he looked a bit white in the middle )
Step 5: Done and ROARING
Your dragon is now done. Mine grew a bit in the oven and looks amazing.
This is good for birthday parties, if the birthday girl or boy loves dragons.
Or just for fun or to give yourself a challenge. Let your imagination run wild - you can be as creative as you like with him.
I'd love to hear your comments. How did your dragon turn out? Did you have fun making it.
